Wow, you nailed that one! One thing I always wondered was, "How can I be more Christ-like? How is that even possible?" and the truth is, no matter how hard we try, we still cannot attain it and then it becomes a work on our part because only HE is perfect. I loved how you quoted part of my favourite chapter from Isaiah 53. I just die every time I read that and think of what He's done for us. I could comment on this teaching until the cows come home. It was excellent.
Oh, just as a side note, you're so cute, little brother and I thought it was beyond precious when one of your daughters said, "Good Morning, Daddy." That was way too cute and melted my heart.

Ha. You and everybody else. I opened my sermon with "good morning", and her little voice could be heard over everybody else's. That was Alanah. She sings very loudly (and rather out of tune - mostly because she doesn't know the tunes to most songs yet) too.

Wonderful sermon Ben, I thought it was excellent. I also enjoyed Alanah's little contribution, too bad you didn't get her singing on the video.
So sorry, I haven't read the previous two sermons. I've not had a mind to focus too well these days, it just seems like my mind has gone to mush. I loved having the video though, that made it so much easier. By the way, I love your accent.

Wow I loved having the video too! That was great! Thanks sooo much for this series! I need to print the last 2 out still to put with the others. It's a great study! Your daughter sounds precious! I love how she sings outloud w/o a care in the world that it's not in tune!! Priceless!

Never mind, sis Liz. Anyway, I think that I try so hard to be Christ-like. Believe me, I try so hard. I am quiet, listen to Him, quick to forgive (I can't hold a grudge very long at all) etc. But then I think, "How can I be more like You, Lord Jesus? I'm flawed but I'm trying so very hard every day." And then, it all comes down to work for me. Am I doing that to honor HIM? Or, am I trying to earn my way into heaven? A Catholic thing in terms of you must be perfect. I know the truth and salvation is a gift. That's what it's all about in terms of what Jesus did for us.

Thank you so much for making that video! I felt like I was in the pew. You really have a gift. It's inspiring. It is so sad how so many churches are devoid of Christ and His spirit. I suppose that was precisely the meaning behind this sermon spoken to the church of Laodicea- and how I would have loved to have a church around here that spoke boldly and honestly like this....or a bible study group unafraid to discuss these times in which we are living. It just makes me all the more grateful for this site and those of us on here. And your daughter is absolutely precious. How sweet.

There is a lot said to this church that I was over looking. Great delivery too.

You pointed out the prosperity preaching and how God wants us all happy, rich and prosperous. One thing that has always bothered me about that is how does that make those who struggle and go without really feel? That type of belief discounts the very faithful in countries of poverty. Does it not tell people they either aren't good enough, have enough faith and such things?
We are all blessed people who more than likely would crumble under the conditions others live in. To put that thinking on people is just putting salt on their wounds. It just does not apply to many Christians who are so faithful and in love with the Lord. The disciples were not prosperous, nor Jesus, their lives were not glamorous! As you mentioned also, that's just not the 'pick up your cross', going thru the refiner's fire, counting the cost that Christ talked about.
BTW Benjamin, how big is your church?

My church is very small. We currently have... probably about 30 people all up, but there's usually about 20-25 in attendance on any one morning.

I love small churches. I'm able to concentrate on the message being delivered so much more.
