Love 103
I was once an administrative assistant for an academic department at a university, and it occurred to me that the lessons the Lord puts us through could be compared to course numbers and names. First we enroll in a freshman class called Salvation 100 wherein we are led to believe in Christ. In addition to this class, we go into discussion groups in order that we may ask questions on a personal basis. Some of the teachers in this course don't have graduate degrees, and they teach mostly Salvation, but they have a wonderful zeal.
After we learn the basics of the faith, our courses are more complex. We may be taught Obedience 102, etc. Probably we will occasionally have to do brush up work in Humility 101. Courses in Patience 200 will be given throughout our undergraduate and graduate work. As we learn the foundations, we may request to enroll in Independent Study 390 courses with the Lord wherein He will teach us His Plan for our life, Mysteries, etc. Upon receiving our undergraduate degree, He may permit us to assist Him in teaching others at the freshman 100 level while we are taking courses at the 500-800 level. I hear that Graduate Teaching Assistants often find themselves rusty and going over the material again nightly before trying to teach.
I seem to be doing okay in my independent study 390 Understanding All Mysteries class, but I can't seem to remember lots of material I had in Scriptures 201, Duty 202, Praying 203, and even Love 103! Also, I've dropped out of Personal Missionary Work 250 again this quarter -- I can't seem to make those field trips!
I'd like to take Prophecies 490 this summer, but I had that prof for Scriptures 201 and he knows I have to use a thumb indexed Bible and be told where to turn for everything and I suspect he'll feel I'm not ready for that level of work.
I hope those 500 to 800 level courses aren't as hard as the 300 and 400 ones. It took me 23 years to get this far! I flunked Obedience 102 on several occasions and went back to work on a chain gang -- the work I was in before I got saved.
I recommend "going to school" year round -- that's what I'm trying to do now!
