Do you think we will sleep in heaven?
I love going to bed at night, especially when it's dark out. I've often wondered if there will be sleep in heaven.
I've read that we sleep because of entrophy, and our bodies need to repair cells etcetera, and perhaps this is true. I know there will be no entrophy in heaven, but I love to sleep.
I do know it will always be brilliantly bright in heaven because the light comes from the Lord.
Does anyone have any opinions or ideas?

There are a whole lot of questions I have like are their books? I love to read. I love to cook and hope we are able to eat, of course, I love to eat also. I wish I knew the answers Elizabeth but I do not. I do know that we will love being in heaven and being with our Lord and we can trust in that alone at this moment in time.

Yes Rieom, I could live on coffee and swiss cheese alone, I love them so much. I also want musical instruments and music lessons. I'm sure we'll have books Rieom, wonderful, fascinating books.

Such a good discussion! I hope we have sleep, books, food, coffee, music, and things to learn. Those make me happy here.
I know that when we are with the Lord, we will see things and know things that we can't even imagine here, and I'm very excited to find out what those are.

Oh Lily, me too. I know our minds will work much better. I hope we will have the joy of learning though. I hope we don't instantly know everything. I used to think that, but I don't believe that anymore. Some things I believe we will have instant knowledge about, but most things we will have all of eternity to learn about.
Then too, like you said Lily, there are areas, we can't even imagine about here, that we'll be learning about for the first time. It is just so exciting to think about. I can hardly wait.

I completely agree with you all. Well, I don't think there will be (at least) night in the new heaven and the new earth, because of Revelation 22:5.
But going to sleep at night after a long day is one of my favourite things too. Actually, night time is probably my favourite time of day, for the quietness that it brings. Don't even get me started on a clear starry night sky. I think that has always been one of my favourite things about the beauty of creation. We won't be seeing it anymore when this world passes away, but... knowing the Lord I'm sure He has prepared something like that just as nice, if not better.
I was usually never one to start the party, but you know what I'm also looking forward to? Group singing and dancing, just like they did in the days of David to praise the Lord. You know those typical cultural songs that are filled with all kinds of instruments and joyful singing? I imagine it to be like that.
I've actually tried to make up a couple dance steps like that in private time with the Lord, but... yeah, they didn't go too well and I had no idea where to start. I felt like an awkward penguin because the only music there was the one I was singing quietly.

John, I know what you mean about the group singing and dancing, I'm looking forward to that too. I think starry night skys are wonderful too, but I'm pretty sure they will be a thing of the past. Like you say, there will be better, and lovlier things in heaven and we will be so busy ooying and ahing over them we won't miss the night sky. I do warn you though, I have two left feet and trip over air, so you might not want to dance next to me.

Good question. I used to ponder about there being no night because of Rev. 22. until I read Charles Larkin's Dispensational Truth which shed a whole different light about the Millennium and Eternity. In Rev.21 & 22 it is speaking of the 'New Jerusalem" which will descend to Earth. God is going to make a New Heaven and New Earth, but in the city itself there will be no night for the Lord Himself will give His light. The New Jerusalem of what I understand will not encompass the earth, but will be at a specific location. So there will be night and day throughout the New Earth but not in the City Itself, there will also be a Sun, Moon and Stars for He said He will establish them FOREVER AND EVER. We will be going to an from the New Jerusalem and will be enjoying His Creation along with the Universe which we will be able to explore. The reason I say this is because He created them for His Pleasure and it will be for our pleasure also, we will not be limited to just the New Jerusalem but will have the entire Universe to enjoy. We will eat in Heaven for there is the Marriage Supper of the Lamb, it will be a feast. There is a lot more than we can imagine, and a few things I learned in reading about this that has also shed some light on some very difficult passages in Scripture in regards to Eternity and the Lords plan for Mankind since the beginning.
Like it says in Psalm 148: 1-6
1) Praise the Lord from the heavens; Praise Him in the heights! 2) Praise Him, all His angels; Praise Him, all His hosts! 3) Praise Him, sun and moon; Praise Him, all you stars of light! 4) Praise Him, you heavens of heavens, And you waters above the heavens!
5) Let them praise the name of the Lord, For He commanded and they were created. 6) He also established them forever and ever; He made a decree which shall not pass away.

I do warn you though, I have two left feet and trip over air, so you might not want to dance next to me. Hahaha. That's hilarious. It's ok. I'm not the greatest dancer either.
Morningstar, I just noticed that there's Revelation 21:23, referring to just the city, the New Jerusalem. So there may still be night after all throughout the rest of the new earth. Will there be sleep, though? I'm happy about the starry sky at least. I hope there will be no light pollution this time around. Lol. I think we are missing so much because of all the artificial lighting over here.

I agree BJ, we will be experiencing night and day throughout the new earth, but in the New Jerusalem there will be just Light coming from the Throne of God, how absolutely wondrous and beautiful that will be. So many people think only in the terms of Heaven as it is right now before the New Jerusalem descends to Earth, but there is so much more. We won't just be sitting around learning, but we will be experiencing and learning at the same time, enjoying the beauties of His creation as He intended from the beginning before Satan corrupted His creation. God's plan for mankind will not be stopped because Satan decided to mess it up for a few thousand years, God's plan will continue as He originally planned only it will be for eternity. I always think about Eternity in these terms and it makes me yearn to get going on our REAL LIFE...I am tired of this polluted world.

Good thread! It's hard to imagine. I would LOVE to sleep for a thousand years. But we are in our human state and it's hard to imagine never needing to sleep. I LOVE to sleep...yet there are times when I can't sleep but want to. That probably makes no sense. What will it be like to never feel tired and want to go to bed and put the quilt or blanket over our heads? I try to do a lot of stuff from the Dr.Oz show and take vitamins, try to eat healthy but I'm still tired! Even with eating iron rich foods. LOL. My parents told me I was the best baby because I would go to sleep right away. According to them, I never cried when being put to bed......that's cuz I always loved sleep. Maybe we're all deficient in something. I'm glad I'm not the only one who loves to sleep. The Sarcastinator loves to sleep too. hahahahahaha.... Who doesn't?! Seriously, back to my point,.....What WILL it be like to never want to sleep or need sleep? We can only imagine.

Shiloh, the Psalm 4:8 verse is waiting for you. Sometimes when I am having trouble falling asleep, I just clear my mind, think of that verse, close my eyes and try again. It's very soothing.
Sometimes for me it also helps imagining something comforting or that makes you relax. Like, why don't you try picturing what Heaven is like, while laying comfortably on your bed trying to fall asleep.
Don't laugh but at other times I actually tried counting sheep jumping over a fence too. LOL. It didn't work, I don't know where people get that idea. I have a lot of trouble falling asleep when something is on my mind or when I'm anxious about something. But again, that Psalm 4:8 is very soothing to focus on in times like those. I'm actually getting sleepy already. Lol

Morningstar, that is so interesting about the sun, moon, and stars continuing on as far as the earth is concerned, and also that they will never be done away with.
And Shiloh, you make a good point in that none of us know what it's like to not ever feel tired. I just find going to sleep such a comforting thing, and I guess in heaven I'm not going to need that at all.

Yeah, Liz. Just think! We'll have so much energy! I can't even imagine. However..for anyone who wants sleep but can't.....I be;ieve found the solution tonight. Make a cornish hen and split it between two of ypu, have stuffing and broccoli and then some dessert. Clean everything up, go take a show and then put "The Winds Of War" on! That'll knock you right out...lol...my husband is sound asleep in his lazy boy chair and I fell asleep on the couch for awhile....this mini-series is STILL on! So, what you want to do is tryptophan yoursleves, get all the cleaning of the pots, pans and dishes done, go take a show and put The Winds Of War on. Trust me! It works! John, thanks for that Psalm. I marked that. On a very serious note, one thing that always calms me is, "be still and know that I am God". I cannot count how many times I fell asleep to that and I didn't put that in my mind. It popped into my head out of the blue. I am a worrier (confession there) I know God did that on a particular night. It is SO much easier to place it all in His Hands. He works everything out and in ways that surprise us in so many ways.

Elizabeth and BJ: I will dance next to you guys, I think it will be a good fit. I have no rhythm and cannot carry a tune. Perhaps in heaven we will have the ability to dance and sing better. I am looking forward to learning Elizabeth. If we automatically knew everything at once, it would be too overwhelming. I do believe that there will be knowledge imparted to us when we go to heaven but do believe we will be learning for the rest of eternity. MS: I hear you and feel the same. I am tired of this polluted earth and the horrors that go on daily around the world. Shiloh: I think of heaven when falling asleep and that helps or I put on a boring show on T.V. which you already found to work.

I presume you turn off the TV sound. I don't have a TV in my room, but I remember falling asleep at different points in the past while watching something with the sounds on, and I couldn't stand it, I was sort of half asleep the whole time because of the sound and then I woke up feeling very disoriented, due to all the racket/people having complete dialogues in what I had been watching.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who loves to sleep. The Sarcastinator loves to sleep too. hahahahahaha.... I resent that Yeah, I do love sleep! I agree with what's already been said, though - while there is no night in the New Jerusalem, there will still be a day/night cycle on the earth. We also know that we won't grow tired the way we do now, so if we do in fact sleep, it won't be because of tiredness. I guess the answer, though, is that we don't really KNOW the answer. Ultimately, if we sleep, great (love my sleep!), but if not, I'm convinced that we won't miss it - so whatever replaces it must be truly amazing.

I agree "Bossie Aussie", I think about when I was a kid, I hated going to bed at night, I just wanted to stay up and play, so I guess it might be that way too only we won't get sleepy we'll just want to be up and about.

Sorry! Don't know what happened there! As I was saying, the Bible says: "No eye has seen, No ear has heard, no mind has conceived what God has prepared for those who love Him" 1 Cor 2:9 The Bible says our minds cannot even begin to imagine what it will be like. I think it will be far above and way beyond anything we can possibly imagine. Wonderful! Keep looking up!

BJ: I do not have a TV in my bedroom. I have CFS so I require lots of rest and sleep. I fall asleep in the living room to something boring on TV and sleep thru with no problem with the noise. I wanted to share what a family member said. He was dying of cancer and was going through what I call transitioning. He was in and out of consciousness. He told his wife that he was going somewhere exciting! That is how I think of heaven as an exciting place.

I for one love imagining what it's going to be like in Heaven, the Lord did give us an imagination and there are glimpses He's revealed in Scripture. It brings me joy just thinking about it. I like what Grant Jeffrey said one time: If your going to take a trip to another country, you would like to know all you can about your destination, and prepare accordingly, and once you get there your experience will probably be much more wonderful than you expected.

I sometimes get lost in wonder just thinking about what heaven will be like. And we really can't know, I know that. It's a lovely way to pass the time though.
