Ok, so, there were four people getting baptised, including myself, all men this time, on Sunday morning. We got to the place the pastor had determined, where there is a small river running, and a lot of people from the church went (and also a few people who apparently aren't saved yet but that are family members of one of the people that were baptised). Then we got things ready and those getting baptised got dressed with a white t-shirt and white pants (that the pastor had bought) and at least I also had swimming shorts underneath those pants. Then, the pastor called everyone there and we stood almost in a circle, he made an introductory speech and said a prayer, and we sang a church song with a guitar being played too. Then, the pastor read from Romans 6. I don't remember if it was in this order, lol, but it was something along these lines.
Then we all went towards the river and the pastor got in the water first. He called the people getting baptised, one by one, from youngest to oldest. I was the second one to go, and I skipped a little into the water, probably with a huge smile, and turned to face everyone, and he asked me the questions he was asking us, if we had accepted Jesus as our Saviour and Lord, to which I said yes, and then the next question was why we wanted to get baptised. I said it was because I wanted to make a public recognition of that decision, and be a part of their group of people that I've so far been very much enjoying getting to know. So he said "Alright. Then by the power invested in me by God, I baptise you in the Name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit." and then he immersed me backwards into the water, and when I got up again, the pastor asked me for a hug, and in doing so he whispered a couple of things into my ear. Then I got out of the water, and the remaining two people were baptised too. Between each person getting baptised, those that weren't getting baptised sang church songs. Then in the end another person said a prayer, giving thanks to God as well. And then people were congratulating us and then a few people left to go home, and the rest stayed and we all shared lunch. Some of the kids there also got to play in the river and a few games people had brought, while everyone else kind of just hanged around there for a few hours chatting, and after that we all headed home.
We've been having a few hot days over here, so that was good because the water wasn't as cold, it was actually refreshing. It was also a bit windy but it got better towards the end of the day.
I have to say that this pastor has really been making an impression on me. I mean, he has a good understanding of Scripture, and I can also see that he has a human side to him, and is humble and sincere. I've heard some of the things that he's been through in his life (some of which remind me of mine, mainly about his father), and I can see that he has a strong faith. He even has a sense of humour from what I've seen. Not to mention everything he has done for me, he's gifted me a hard copy Bible when I was looking to buy one, and yesterday he gave me a ride both ways between the city and the place where we were baptised. I'm still getting to know all these people better but so far, at the end of the day, they've been a blessing too. And so have you guys been.
