I got scoffed at this a.m. for mentioning the rapture could be soon. We know this will happen in the end times. What I was wondering if all the cults and the horror stories from them cause people to not believe in the rapture. I wonder if the cults are the reason people find it so hard to believe in the rapture. I also wonder if the cults were established so that others would have harder time believing in the rapture. What do you all think?

Yes, I think the cults are part of it. After, I read would your question, I did a search for "I don't believe in the rapture". There is a lot of information of people who have taken individual verses and explained why there can be no rapture. It is easy to take a theory and find individual bible verses to back up that theory. It takes a lot more effort to use the whole bible to come up with the answers. But in the end this will still happen:

Yes, Rieom, I am sure cults are a part of this. I have a dear friend who is a Seventh Day Adventist, and sent her a detailed e-mail, given her verse after verse in the Bible proving there is a rapture and that we are not appointed onto wrath, and I didn't get a response back. Not sure if she even read it. So in order not to have any dissension in our friendship, we have "agreed not to disagree" and we don't try to convince each other anymore about whether there is a rapture or not...even though I do mention it once in a while when the subject comes up. The last thing I said on the subject was, "Well, don't be surprised when you hear the trumpet and you go up in the air", to which she said, "I hope so." So that was good....it's not that she's against the rapture, it's just that she's convinced there is none because of what her church teaches, and she's preparing herself to go through the tribulation. Anyway, I used to be a SDA myself, so I do know where she is coming from.

I'm sure cults don't help, but I don't think we need any great reason why the Rapture isn't viewed as a tolerable doctrine. In my own circles, it's much simpler - most of the Christians I know don't view the Bible literally, so they don't even know what they believe as far as eschatology is concerned. That's quite literally the response I've had. I talked with a friend's wife once (we were giving them a lift home from church) about the Rapture - I mentioned it, she queried what it was - I filled her in, told her what I believed and why, and used Scripture to back it up... the next day, I got a very angry email from her husband saying that he didn't want me filling her head with rubbish.
I asked him what he believed, and his response was quite literally "I don't know what's going to happen, and I don't know what I believe about those things"... so, why the anger?
The honest response is that it's a spiritual, willful blindness. People don't know, and they don't want to know. More than that, they're not even looking forward to Jesus' return. They don't talk about it, they don't think about it, and often, they don't really even want it to happen - or at least "not yet".

You hit the nail on the head Benjamin. I was told today, by a Christian when I mentioned the rapture that she wanted to live a long life and then die in her sleep. They do not want to hear any message that is not familiar to them. I really think some Christians carry there Bibles to church and then back home only to be taken out for church the next time.
Leeza: That is a BIG step for your friend to say I hope for. We have to just keep planting those seeds. Sometimes I feel like screaming "listen to what I have to say". Peaceinthestorm: You made me laugh with your google question. It is that easy and for some reason I forget that resource. I always believe checking out a verse with a concordance and different Bible sources, and chatting about it with another Christian. I watched the video and the sudden boom made me almost jump out of my chair.

I can't add a thing here but I think all of you nailed it. In my experience, it's that people get sick and tired of me talking about the Rapture. That even includes believers. It's to the point where they just smile and I feel like they want to just pat me on the head and say, "There, there now.." Most don't want to talk about the Lord and are talking about all the new things they have or are focused on the world view of things....as in worrying about world events. So, I have learned to shut my mouth and pretty much feel isolated in that aspect. I stay silent most of the time. That is why I love this forum. We all stay in the Word and anxiously await our call to go to our real home. When we look at God's plan and we are able to see things in the big picture (although we see through the glass dimly and not fully), everything else seems so insignificant and mundane when we deal with everyday life.

Yes, Rieom, I agree. I was very encouraged when she said that! And I know what you mean about the screaming part, lol!!! It's like what Shiloh said....most people just don't want to hear it.

All I want to talk about is the rapture and what is going on in the world, the Bible prophecy being fulfilled and I know many of you feel the same way. It is hard to bite the tongue and remain quiet. I like this forum too Shiloh, we can chat with others who feel the way we do and no scoffing.

I hold a little prophecy "Watchers" group in my home every month or two, and it is such an enormous blessing to me! We are mostly on the same page, with no scoffing. Every one of us is "done" with this sick, twisted, perverted, violent, evil cesspool and longs to go Home. I am so grateful for this group of friends--especially my dear Bella whom God brought into my life to reignite my passion for the prophetic, just as He opened her eyes for the first time to the times in which we live. He is so good like that! It is icing on the cake that my hubby believes, too!

LOL, Benjamin. Shelayne, I've sent the link and links from here too. I think some people are too shy to join a forum or something. I know they lurk, though.

I am in the middle of doing my will. I was telling my friend about this. I said I was going to do this, this summer, and make my funeral arrangements next summer so my family wouldn't have to ever worry about it. Then I added that I probably wouldn't need funeral arrangements, because I would probably be raptured before I die. My friend just started to laugh at me. She's heard this from me before, and will again. She's a lovely person, but not a Christian. I'll keep witnessing to her.

Liz, that is a very smart thing to do. We never know what the Lord has planned for us, but we should go on with our lives and prepare the best way we can for the inevitable, no matter what age you are...good thinking. rieom, I think for the most part you have more christians who don't want to talk about the Rapture, than those that do. If it isn't taught in the Churches, and Pastors are not comfortable talking about it to their congregations because it makes them feel uneasy, or better yet the Pastors really don't study God's Prophetic Word because they don't want to take the time to study and understand it...anyway that's what I think...very sad.

Yeah, but I just thought of something after looking at the title of this thread again. It's a great way to get rid of people that you don't want to talk to anyway.

He IS, isn't he? You know more about him than anyone because your his mom. I'm old enough to be his mom and my son is only a few years younger than him. They can really be wicked at times.
