I have wondered lately why Jesus referred to Himself as the Son of Man....Son of God seems more powerful, more of who He was and would have more authority. Do you think it was because of His humility? A way to connect more with us? Just something I've been pondering.

Jesus never denied His deity. He was born through the line of David, but His deity never ceased. I think it was a part of his humility. He was the God-man. He claimed His deity on many occasions in the New Testament. He was divine and human when He came to earth.

^ that's absolutely true, but there's also a little more to it than that. From Daniel 7:
13 I saw in the night visions, and, behold, one like the Son of man came with the clouds of heaven, and came to the Ancient of days, and they brought him near before him.
14 And there was given him dominion, and glory, and a kingdom, that all people, nations, and languages, should serve him: his dominion is an everlasting dominion, which shall not pass away, and his kingdom that which shall not be destroyed.
Jesus' title as the Son of Man identifies Him in BOTH contexts - both His humanity, AND His deity.

That's a good point, Benjamin. He was revealed in the Old Testament. A foreshadowing of His coming to earth. Look at Job. He didn't have a bible or scripture to rely on and learn from...yet he believed.
The "Ancient of days". For some reason, I have always loved that term of reference.

Good points you 2! I don't t think Jesus ever denied who He was but He seems to use the term Son of Man often. I just wonder why? The title Son of God is so much more powerful I would think. I guess being human and all I would prefer to use the title becuz it sounds like "hey you better listen to me. I'm someone you don't want to mess with! And that is why He is God and I am not!

I think it's because that (His deity) was something that He wanted people to come to understand by themselves, rather than merely because He claimed it to be so. He wasn't aiming to create 'the cult of Jesus', He was seeking those who would follow Him in spirit and in truth. This is why, when Jesus says:
"Who do you say that I am?"
and Peter replies:
"You are the Christ; the Son of the Living God", Jesus says "blessed are you, Simon, son of Jonah, for God in Heaven has revealed this to you."
That was the crux. It wasn't to be merely a claim (despite the fact that "it was not robbery for Him to claim equality with God"), but a reality revealed by a genuine knowledge of the Christ.

That makes a lot of sense Benjamin! Thanks!
