I've been talking about this on Facebook today. I can see the potential for these events to be far more significant than they appear on the surface. Russia has a significant investment in Ukraine. In energy terms, over 80% of Russia's natural gas exports pass through Crimea on their way to Europe. In military terms, Russia has a naval base at Sevastopol that hosts their Black Sea Fleet... while Russian Oligarchs have a significant financial investment in business throughout the Ukraine. Russia has long seen Ukraine as something of a 'prodigal son' in political terms, and this current crisis has afforded them the opportunity to bring those assets back into the fold. We've seen plenty of posing and posturing from Russia in the past couple of years, along with significant amounts of covert or explicit action in places like Syria and Iran - but this... this is different. This is the first time in a long time that Russia has flexed her military muscle outside her own borders. If this is the first few steps of Russian Imperialism returning, we could be on the threshold of a very, very important time prophetically. Magog is rising, and Ukraine could be the first to fall under her spell. www.nowtheendbegins.com/blog/?p=16898

I agree that it doesn't sound good for the Ukraine.
Putin is going to be busy with Syria, and now the Ukraine.

...that could be significant too. If Putin is too busy in Ukraine to meddle in Syria, who steps into the vacuum left behind? Isaiah 17 isn't far away...

It is definitely a take over and probably not much will happen as far as world action. There is death and destruction all over the Middle East, Africa, etc., and the powers that be are just posturing.
Putin is an interesting person to watch especially since we know what is coming with Gog and Magog. I do not think he will let his foothold in Syria extinguish as that is a location near Israel and is prime real estate for him.
I will be watching Ukraine to see if they split the country with half to Putin and half to the Europeans.
Do you have to be greedy, power hungry, ego ridden, and narcissist to lead nations?

The Psalm 83 and Isaiah 17:1 battles have to happen first because Israel will not feel threatened from neighbouring nations and will become "a land of unwalled villages". That certainly is not the case at this present time. The first two battles can happen within a matter of mere days or weeks. Look at the 6 day war. Israel will be the one who defeats their surrounding enemies and destroys Damascus, although they won't see God's Hand in their victory until after the Gog, Magog battle. They will know it was Divine intervention by God Himself. Still, they will not recognize Jesus as Lord and Saviour at that point but will come back into the Covenant with God.

I agree wholeheartedly. I've no doubt that Psalm 83/Isaiah 17 (which I think is a single battle, Isaiah 17 being the opening foray, Psalm 83 being the broader war (though that's conjecture on my part)) wars must occur first. I agree though, that these things could take place in a very short space of time. I don't see Psalm 83 as being a long war; though it has many participants, few seem organised (it's a very fragmented war), and the numerous factions are probably not all that cohesive. Ezekiel 38, on the other hand, will be different. That war has a concrete leader. Gog will lead, and where he goes, Magog and her allies will follow.
