Excellent article, giving us a good guide to discernment " within" the Church.

When Discernment turn Ugly
What Constitutes Biblical Separation? When is Something False Teaching? When did "Guilt by Association" become "Apologetics"?
There is no doubt that we live in the age of ever increasing apostasy. The authentic Church, or “remnant,” spoken of in the Book of Revelation appears to be shrinking, at least in our western culture. And growing numbers of those who remain steadfast and faithful to the Word of God are becoming acutely aware of false teaching and false teachers dotting the Christian landscape.
As many now display a “form of godliness” but “deny the power thereof," it is becoming evident that these surely are the “perilous times” the Apostle Paul warned Timothy of in II Timothy 3:1. As we watch the end-times unfold, I praise God for each and every real believer who employs discernment and is doing their best to watch for and warn about that which is counterfeit. But as one examines doctrine, practice, and those who teach throughout Christendom, one question is constantly voiced: where does a discerning Christian draw the line in determining what is false teaching and who is a false teacher? This is perhaps one of the most difficult and divisive parts of apologetics.

Very good article! Thank you. Morningstar. I think a lot of what he wrote stemmed from the result of the hits that Jan Markell's "Understanding The Times Conference" took shortly after the conference guest list was published late in 2011 or early in 2012. She had invited Rabbi Jonathan Cahn to speak (author of The Harbinger), which incidentally brought the house down and untold numbers came to Christ that day--praise His holy Name! Anyway, there were some hardliners that believed she was inviting a false prophet/false teacher and publicly condemned that conference, Jonathan Cahn (obviously), and everyone who participated by extension, including Jan Markell, who has done nothing BUT contend for the faith. It was a very sad thing to see. If I recall correctly, one of her often-invited guest speakers was one of those with a sharp tongue and even sharper pen. I think Jan felt blindsided, thrown under the bus, and was deeply hurt. I have attended these conferences in the past and have loved them, though missed the "controversial" one in 2012. I wish I had gone, though, I heard it was absolutely amazing by dear friends of ours.

I heard something about that, I know who the critics were also, and I was dissapointed in them for they are well known Bible teachers. If anyone contends for the faith it is Jan Markell, Eric Barger, and Dr. David Reagan to name a few. She has been through some rough times physically also, but she is one tough lady, and I love her articles.

She is one tough lady! I have sent her information via email before, and she has always answered me personally with a thank you, and if anything was to occur from the info I passed on to her. I have nothing but admiration and respect for someone who stands so strong in the faith. God bless Jan Markell and her ministry.
