The newest member to have a seat is Iran. The US did voice criticism but neither they nor anyone else made a vote against their joining when the time to do so came and went. I guess it does not matter how you treat/abuse women in the long run. As a female, I find this offensive.

That just kills me how they conveniently overlook things like that. The way they treat women IS a crime against humanity. Look at the little girl who got shot because she wanted an education. We treat our animals better than they treat their women. My heart bleeds for those women and the U.N. and all other nations remain silent. It's almost a wink and a nod as far as I'm concerned. You never hear anyone speaking up for them except for some women. Everyone turns a blind eye to all the abuse and the horrors of it.

It is despicable. There are brave women working inside Iran, trying to change things for women, but they are putting their lives in great danger but speaking out.

Apparently, last year, Iran got a seat on the UN nuclear disarmament committee, too. What are they thinking?

I think they are trying to infiltrate as much of America as they can in order to take charge. We see it, why are others blind to it?

Don't make the assumption that the UN is an impartial body. It simply isn't. We've seen how they treat Israel; this shouldn't be surprising at all, given that the Arab world dominates UN proceedings. That is why countries like Saudi Arabia and Iran end up with places on such commissions - not because they deserve a role there, but because they're voted in by their Muslim buddies, who, of course, see nothing wrong with the treatment of women in Iran. After all, it's in accordance with Islamic law, and with Mohammed's own example.
The UN is just another special interest group - nothing more. Serving the interests of Muslims worldwide. The only thing that stands in the way of that is the veto powers given to certain nations - and even those are only employed in self-interest. Nobody feels they have anything to gain from denying Iran a place on this committee... instead, they hope it will be a bone that will keep this particular dog happy in the corner for a while.
Madness.

Yeah, I agree. The UN is nothing but a waste and self serving, as you said..."self-interest".
