i have made it a priority to find a good Bible teacher and go through books of the Bible verse by verse, and it has so influenced my growth as a Christian. i am so excited today, because i am digging in to a book in the Old Testament that i have never gone through "line by line". i have read and quoted many many "verses" from Issiah, but have never read through the book in the 33 years i have been a Christian. but that ends today, as i embark on a deep Bible study into Issiah.
i'm curious.....what books have you studied in depth, and how has it changed you?
i pray that we all stay in our Bibles because our blessed Lord Jesus is coming soon!

I have always loved the book of Romans. Romans 8 is probably my favourite chapter. There are treaures in all books of the Bible. I have a hard time (not always though) studying the Bible line by line or verse by verse. I have to take it in its entirety because if I don't, I have found myself taking a passage out of context. I have to say, out of all the apostles, I think it's Paul who has helped me the most to understand....and he was a former terrorist before he was confronted by the Lord on the road to Damascus. Amazing, isn't it? I DO love the book of Isaiah too.

Shiloh, like you, I love the books of Paul and I also love Isaiah. The thing about the bible is that my 'favorite' keeps changing often to whatever book I am currently reading. There are so many wonderful stories in the bible, and the teachings are what my heart yearns for.

Absolutely. Intense study is the best way to learn, it really is. So much of what we pick up from church in these Last Days is surface - we gloss over passages and bring out some kind of vague life lesson, and that's supposed to be good enough. I'm convinced that the depth of God's Word is infinite. I mean that sincerely. The more I read, the more I learn, and the more I realise I still have to learn.
I'm currently going through Revelation, using Chuck Missler's series on the book (a 24-hour long series of videos!), and loving it... and have been studying each chapter on my own before watching the video on that chapter. I'm really enjoying it, I've had lots come out of it already.

When I was a young Christian, I read the Bible from cover to cover more than once. At this point in my life, I am reading (Paul currently) slowly and when I read something I want to think more on or something that speaks to me, then I stop. I will then learn the line and meditate on it until it is time to move on. When I need comfort or when I am feeling distracted, then I always go to the Psalms which never become old for me.

I haven't watched the one on Isaiah yet. I just did a bunch of the minor prophets recently, that was pretty fantastic... and I watched "The Bible in 24 Hours" with my wife (who is a newer Christian than I am), which was great too.

I never used to read my Bible verse-by-verse until just recently, within the past few years after God woke me up to the end times. I used to just read smaller books or chapters in a sitting and be done. Never really meditated on anything, but found the promises, identified with the pain, and moved on. However, God led me to read the book of Ephesians for the first time with *spirit* eyes, and I jotted down notes on everything I read. I happened to jot down my notes in the margin of my Bible. But it helped me so much and seriously blew my mind. Writing down my thoughts and cross-reference verses vastly helped me remember threads and rabbit trails and where things are in Scripture. You don't have to annotate your Bible margins, but I would recommend jotting notes in a notebook at least. It WILL help you, believe me. I decided to do the same with the smaller books of the New Testament, and before I knew it, I was in the OT, doing the Proverbs, Songs, the Psalms, etc... God then told me He wanted me to do the entire Bible. Knowing my personality, He had me do one book, then another and another until I had a good few under my belt before revealing what He actually wanted me to do - likely knowing I would quit before I started if He revealed His plan from the start. It's too much, Lord! Ah, but He knows how to deal with me. That was in the summer of 2012. Almost two years later, I have 41 books annotated, leaving 25 left to do. It has been an A-M-A-Z-I-N-G experience! I have grown so much in my sanctification, and I understand so much more than I ever did about God, theology, and His plan for redemption. The awesome thing about the Bible is you realize how often it cross-references itself in obscure ways that aren't obviously Paul quoting Isaiah. The Spirit truly does "open your eyes to the Scriptures" (Luke 24:45). I've likened it to a crime-scene board, with those red strings criss-crossing all over the place. Charles Spurgeon likens it another way. I love his way.

Benjamin, your going to Love the Book of Isaiah by Chuck Missler, that is what I am into right now, also the book of Matthew, Revelation (again)...slowly working my way through, there are so many jewels of wisdom, also insights into some of the other books in the Ot & NT..so much to grasp.

so far, isaiah has been very interesting. i'm about a third of the way through. i agree with becka, that you find so many scriptures "tucked away" in other books, which NT authors surely paraphrased in their works. for years, i avoided so many of the OT books because it just seemed like a bunch of curses and genealogies. however, all of the Bible is given for us to learn from, and there are many many people in Scripture that i can't wait to meet once we meet our Lord in the air.

This is how our pastor teaches-- verse by verse. Our latest chapter is Genesis, though I have missed quite a few of these teachings, as they have been going on for many months. And he is retiring this summer. I think I will check out these studies by Chuck Missler, as they sound like some very chewy meat. Becka, I love that quote by Spurgeon. What a beautiful, poetic way to describe the awe and wonder of the Word of God.

well, i finished the 30+ hour Isaiah study with Chuck Missler, and it was very inspiring and helpful. i think i'm going to go verse by verse through one of Paul's epistles next, probably Phillipians. i strongly recommend checking out books of the Bible that you don't know really well. it's simply amazing the insights i have gotten by just digging in and letting the Holy Spirit speak to my heart.
we are SO blessed to have the actual word of God to read and study. think of the millions of Christians who lived and died without even being able to touch a Bible, let alone read it. a few years ago, i really had to repent for taking God's word for granted. my life has been changed so much these past few years due to diligent study, in season and out of season.
truly, Jesus is the Christ!

I finished Revelation, and have moved on to Genesis. After Genesis I'll probably do Isaiah too, though I'd also very much like to do Ezekiel. I've been reading through Malachi in the past week or so (I've read through it multiple times - man, is that book depressing until you reach the twist at the end!), and that's been rewarding too. It's amazing how many of the books written in the last days of revelation to Israel parallel what the world is going through now.

Oooooh, NOW your comment makes sense.
No, I was referring to the fact that I'm happy to "suck it up" in regards to Chuck Missler repeating content from one video to another - because I'm not just watching the Genesis series for myself, I'm watching it with my wife, too. So, I'll suffer through the repeated bits for her sake, as it's all new to her.

shiloh, you would have to listen to a lot of chuck missler to undersrtand. he has about two dozen "ten minute illustrations" that he seems to tell no matter what book of the Bible he teaches on, and he doesn't care if it is relevant or not. he likes to talk about flat people, shoes, hyper spaces, wall street ethics, oh, yes, and a lot about Jesus too.

Shiloh, here's a link to Missler's site that I use, it's his New Zealand site: www.kitrust.org/ After you join, click on the free VOD and you can see all the free video's you can watch on your computer. You can probably check them out before joining. There probably is an American site as well. I think I looked into joining that one as well, but for non Americans this one worked out better for me. Check both out and see what you think.

Its easy to take scripture out of context on a verse by verse basic, which I'm sure you know. Keep it in context!
