I sometimes just open the Bible at random and start reading. Other times I feel a nudge from God on where to read. It ends up being an erratic journey through the Bible but I do tend to focus more on New Testament than the Old Testament.

I think I have read Genesis the most times because of all the times that I have started reading through the Bible and not gotten very far and started over. Sometimes I concentrate on the book that my pastor is preaching from. Other times it is easiest for me to get a read through the bible plan and use it. I admit it usually takes me longer than a year to go through it but I just go at my own pace. This time I picked psalms because I usually hurry through those and I just learned that I was missing a lot of nuggets so I am reading them more slowly this time, looking for the hidden treasures.

Peaceinthestorm: If you have read the old posts, there are a few of us on this forum who have started taking more time and going slowly when reading the Bible. I find that concept interesting. Granted we are a small group but in spite of that it seems this is God's will at this moment in time. I sure hope this does not mean we are going to be here for a long time. I will also admit to skipping reading some books of the Bible because I find it tedious.

I did read a lot of post before I decided to join. I also looked at other forums. The last one I was on was not a good fit for me and it was a hard decision to leave, so I wanted to make sure not to make a mistake in joining this one. I did not however see the posts that you are referring to. I do find that interesting.

Some of the "tedious" books actually have the best stories in them - though as you say, you often have to really take your time to uncover them. My favourite Bible story comes from the book of Numbers, which a lot of people don't read (though it's not as heavy as, say, Deuteronomy or Leviticus). Numbers 22-24. That's your homework ...it's also one of the first explicit prophecies about the coming of the Messiah to Israel.

I did the homework. I assume everyone else has too. I have to laugh because that passage reminds me of the Green Eggs and Ham book by Dr. Seuss. Does anyone know why?

peaceinthestorm, I did read your homework. I'm thinking it reminded you of Dr. Suess because of the word "And". Benjamin, you're right, I haven't read Numbers the way I should have. This is why homework is a good thing.

I have to admit Benjamin that was interesting. It gave a beginning to the known fact that anyone who curses Israel will be cursed. Hatred for God's people plays throughout history and yet they still stand today. If only those who oppose Israel would just read the Bible, they would know no one can bring Israel down. It is there in black and white for all to see.

Very true. It shows a number of other things, too:
- A time will come when even the false prophets cannot deny the God of Israel - Baalam, the false, pagan prophet, was used to predict the coming Messiah ("I see Him, but not now...") - foreshadowing both the coming of Israel's Messiah, and the fact that He would also be the Saviour of the Gentiles - talking donkeys are awesome

OK maybe the analogy to Green Eggs and Ham is a bit stupid but here it is. In the book, Sam I am keeps trying to get the other guy to try green eggs and ham. He won't try them so Sam I am keeps trying different places, boat, car, tree, here, there. The other guy said, I will not try them here or there. I will not try them anywhere. In the bible when Balaam won't curse Israel, Balak just tries different places. Balaam basically said I will not curse them here or there. I will not curse them anywhere. Well not in those words.

Benjamin: I am hoping that all the animals in heaven can converse with us. That would be so cool.
Peaceinthestorm: It works for me as it is the same concept.
