Here's an article I thought worth posting.
The Lighthouse Blog:
Letter to the Editor: Pastor’s Child Having “Dreams of Demons” – Is There a Connection to Contemplative Spirituality?
To Lighthouse Trails:
My husband & I have visited your website so many times in the past several years to obtain the truth about Contemplative Spirituality and the Mystical practices entering the churches around us. We are so discouraged in our area. The lack of discernment is heartbreaking to us, as we have struggled to find a church home for our family. We left our church that we loved about 7 years ago & still haven’t found a church that isn’t affected to some degree. We are in a small church now. We have been there for about 3 years. We aren’t happy with everything, but it has been a “safe” place for us. Sadly, we are now hearing phrases and terminology that is very alarming . . . ”thin veil” & books are mentioned that are questionable. I have been able to get reliable answers from you in the past and we receive your newsletters & appreciate the work you are doing.
My question is this . . . We are hearing a lot from the pastor (in sermons & in discussions) about how his family has been in spiritual warfare for over a year now. He announced (unplanned) during the beginning of a sermon __ months ago that he was struggling with fear and had lots of changes going on in his family (his mother died, oldest daughter was engaged to be married the next few months, etc . . .) He blurted out that one of his children was having dreams of demons & they were really struggling with spiritual warfare. I am concerned that this child with the dreams may have been reading some books or attended some retreat where she may have opened herself up to Contemplative prayer or something. I don’t want to be judging, I am just VERY concerned.
So again, my question would be . . . is there a connection between what someone would call spiritual warfare and being involved with Contemplative Spirituality, Contemplative Prayer/ Spiritual Formation? Any thoughts and information that you could share would be greatly appreciated. We have tried to talk to the pastor and asked if we could get together and discuss things. We told him that we just like to share with each other and learn together. He told us he was interested in that, but when we actually started asking him to read and talk about something, it seemed like he tried to distance himself. We are concerned and disheartened. We sometimes feel like he tells us one thing, but then we hear something different in the sermon or from his actions.
Thank you for any help you may shed on this situation.
