Livni is certainly no good for Israel. She's very liberal and would give away the entire state of Israel if it were up to her.

I agree, I can't imagine why Netanyahu appointed her to that position. This ME thing just keeps moving forward to their 'due' date - so weird.

He appointed her because he had to. It's an unfortunate quirk of Israeli politics that a party can very rarely rule on the basis of its own membership and votes. Netanyahu was forced to incorporate Kadima in order to establish a ruling party.
As for being the "Minister of Justice", I'd assume that because of her vital role in (essentially) handing power to Netanyahu after the elections, she was probably in a position to ask for any role she wanted in the new government. In fact, I'd suggest that it was probably negotiated before Netanyahu's appointment ever took place.
She's actually a pretty shrewd politician, but she's a humanist... so she views the world in very different terms to Netanyahu, who frames the Israeli/Palestinean struggle as a national and religious conflict.
