I remember, almost 6 years ago, sitting in front of my pastor during a marriage counseling session. It was shortly after, I believe, my true "heart belief" in Christ (prior to that I think it was more of a "head belief"). Anyways, I remember sitting in the room listening to my pastor speak about God and describing Him in ways I never thought of before...my pupils I believe were so enlarged while hearing Him talk about our BIG GOD... I had cartoon "doe eyes" like this lol ....
I was in AWE!!! I was thinking of this AMAZING GOD in a whole new light! Since then, it has just intensified. I feel constantly wooed! I love wondering about Him! I pray for Him to consume my every thought with JUST HIM! I loooooovvveee reading how people picture Him!! I looooovvveeee scripture that describes Him!!! I CANT KNOW ENOUGH lol! So the reason for this post is....how would you describe Him? I mean, I know our imaginations can't possibly fathom His Majesty and Glory...but how do you picture the Father? Christ? the Holy Spirit?

NFFE, this is something I cannot do in totality. I can only think of portions of God, because the characteristics of Him are so wonderful and overwhelming. Sometimes I just think about the unconditional love of God for us, and I just cannot take that one part of God in. I really have a hard time wondering about more than one facet of God.

Okay NFFE, I see the Lord as strong, loving, powerful, and gracious. When I look into His face, I will see these characteristics reflected there. He is only truthful, and has dignity, the likes of which have never been seen. I am so thankful that my Lord was crucified for my sin, and died for my sins, so that my Father would forgive me. It is so hard for me to take in that kind of love.
As for my Father, I am not a person anyone would choose to be their child. I was not wanted by my own parents. It is amazing God would choose me to be His child from before the foundation of the world. He is the most loving Father.
NFFE, I'm glad you brought up this topic, but I am almost tearing up writing about what it is going to be like, to meet Christ, and God the Father. I can hardly wait. I also wish I could articulate better.

NFFE...You really have me chuckling....I could just picture you sitting there with that expression, that is so adorable. And that is such an awesome question. Words fail me but I'll do the best I can.
Wow...The Father: Glorious, Majestic infinite God, who knows all, loves all, surrounded by this beautiful unimaginable Light of different colors, that radiates His being, radiates His Love, and His everlasting Peace, that if your in His Presence in Heaven, it totally envelopes you where all you would want to do is Love Him back, and Praise Him continually like the four living creatures of Revelation 4:8.
Jesus Christ: We all have a mental picture of Him, but the one I keep in my mind is the one they showed on the History Channel "The real face of Jesus" from the Shroud of Turin. I can't forget that.
My Sweet Jesus, I picture Him in Radiance like the Father in all His Glory, and because He is in His Resurrected body when He looks at you there would be so much compassion, love, tenderness, peace & rest in His eyes that it will reach into your soul, I believe that He will still have the nail marks from the Crucifixion (They would look upon Him whom they have pierced Zechariah 12:10) that He did it all for us so we may be with Him forever, how can we ever thank Him enough, in our flesh we can only do so much, but we will have an Eternity with Him to Praise and Worship our Savior.
Holy Spirit: This is a little harder for me to picture, but we can feel Him in us, guiding, loving and teaching us along our Christian path. He is God, working in us..the Triune God, we can picture them separately but they are the One God of the Universe, the Creator of all things...
Our loving Father, Son and Holy Spirit...Don't ask me to explain the Trinity I'll explain it when we get to Heaven, but I guess I won't need to because you'll know as much as I do then.

I really don't know how to answer your question, so I'll go with Dr. S.M. Lockridge's description. I believe he says, "He's indescribable" at one point, but then goes on to do a really nice job of describing Him

Elizabeth, my parents didn't want me either and my mom still tells me that she wishes she'd never have had me. I thank God He wants me even though they don't/didn't (my father has passed away). I think that's impacted my picture of God in many ways I wish it wouldn't have but I also think it made me better able to listen when He called me. I don't know how to express that, exactly, except I think the hurting hear His call better than those who aren't hurt. I like to picture God sitting and holding me on His lap, just letting me snuggle in and feel how much He loves me. So I guess my answer to the question is I picture Him as loving, listening, caring, safe, and peaceful. When I'm outside I'm frequently in awe of how mighty and creative the Father is. I love the Michael Card song where he talks about the universe falling from God's fingertips. He speaks and it happens. I think I only get a tiny glimpse of it all now. I can't wait to see Him!

Nana and Elizabeth, I'm so sorry that you both went through that experience. Even though I felt loved by my mother, I always felt that I was a burden to her raising me as a single parent when I lost my father at a young age, and felt guilty for being born for a long, long time. I always felt like I had to make it up to her. I was a very obedient child, never causing her an ounce of trouble, but I could see that she was still overwhelmed and she would distance herself from my problems because she couldn't handle them, so I never shared them with her.
So for a long time, I would see the Lord in that same way...that when I had a problem, I was on my own to deal with it the best way that I could. I thought He was indifferent to my pain until the Lord broke through to me one day, and made Himself real to me.
So to answer your question, nofruitforeve, this is how I picture the Lord now. I see God the Father as very loving, compassionate, and long suffering. Always willing to forgive, but disciplining us when we miss the mark and stray away from Him. I see Jesus as an older brother, being protective of us and interceding for us to our Father, always merciful, always loving, and our Lord and Savior. I see the Holy Spirit as our Comforter, our Teacher, the One Who gives us guidance and wisdom, and the One Who lives inside of us to equip us for the work of serving the Lord.

Nana and Leeza, I sympathize with both of you, I understand how hard it is having been there myself. I did what you did. I responded to God based on my relationship with my parents. I'm sure that normal human reaction. It is a miracle of God, that I realize I am loved by God, but praise the Lord, He does love us so very much.
The bible says, "All things work together for good, to them that love the Lord, and are called according to His purpose." I found that to be true from the experience of my childhood. I would not change it, much growth ended up coming because of it. While I did not get the best of parents, I did get the best of siblings. I thank the Lord for them, and pray for their salvation.
There's things in your posts I identify with, my goodness. I'm looking forward to meeting you in heaven, we'll have to talk.
Leeza, thanks for posting That's My King, that's very moving. Christ will not be our (the church's) King though, will he? He will be the King of the Jews. Christ will be our Lord.

Elizabeth said "NFFE, I'm glad you brought up this topic, but I am almost tearing up writing about what it is going to be like, to meet Christ, and God the Father. I can hardly wait. " Awww Elizabeth, I tear up so easily when soaking Him in....that's the Holy Spirit in us Morningstar, I love your descriptions!!!! I have a difficult time too picturing what the Holy Spirit looks like ....I know it's all beyond what our minds can comprehend but it's fun to imagine I tried explaining the Trinity to my friends 7 year old and gave the analogy of an egg....1 egg , 3 different parts...shell, white, and yolk. God the Father I picture being so incredibly bright and BIG....when before His throne I picture Him seeming so close yet so far away because of His massiveness! When HE speaks, I imagine it would rumble through our bodies and fill us with such a rush of LOVE that our current flesh would fall dead to. Our Lord Jesus I picture being very tall, olive skin and eyes filled with these endless puddles of LOVE! I picture them to be an indescribable blueish green and filled with HIS light that pierces right through to the heart. <3

NFFE, I know I tried explaining it to my Granson, with an avocado, Peach, but you know, it's really unfathomable...
Elizabeth & Nana: You both really touched me with your comments, my heart went out to you both..I said to myself, that's it..I'm adopting these girls Lord while were still here until the Rapture.
So I am dedicating this lovely Song, (which gives me goosebumps (the good kind) to you both....sharing with you the Love of our Savior and the Love we all have for you here on this Forum.

Elizabeth, I sure do sympathize with you, too! Yes, I think that the natural reaction is to relate to God based on our relationship to our parents, because they are our biggest role models growing up. But thank God that you know His love NOW and that you had a good relationship with your siblings growing up. I'm glad that you liked the video of "That's My King". Isn't it beautiful? Looking forward to meeting you in heaven and giving you a big hug!!

Great thread, NFFE! Elizabeth and Nana, Satan will ALWAYS try to rob us any of our joy in knowing who our Heavenly Father is. Indescribable really IS the word because we can't and we often don't even feel it at times on this earth. There is oppression all around us and will comtinue to be until we are called up to our REAL home. I amigine such acceptance and love through His Son that we will feel a pulling of such great love that we want to RUN to Him. The only term I can use as in what I think of is "agape love" and I honestly believe we cannot fully comprehend that kind of love in this earthly state that we are in...yet. But we will, once we are there and we no longer look through the glass dimly. I have this feeling we'll all be pulled by such a force of HIS tremendous, overwhelming love and leap toward Him, instead of limping along on earth as wounded warriors...even though we believe.

Morningstar, aren't you sweet, and thank you for the song.
Shiloh, I'm so glad you are up and posting. I hope this means you are feeling better.
As for feeling loved by God now, I stopped going by my feelings awhile ago. Now I go by what the bible says regardless of how I feel, and that's worked wonders.
NFFE, thank you for starting this thread and thank you Jim, Nana, Leeza, Morningstar, and Shiloh, for what you've written. This has just been a meaningful thread for me.

Oh, Elizabeth, I know what you mean! When I first started walking with the Lord, I would be so miserable if I didn't feel God's love or Presence. But now that I am a mature Christian, like you, I have learned to put feelings aside and walk by faith so that is no longer necessary. And you are so right, that has worked wonders! That was so freeing to me. So many times I don't feel His love, and that's okay, because I know that I am loved, whether I feel it or not. An analogy to me is like a couple who have been married for many, many years in a happy marriage, and they have grown old together. They don't have to hear the words "I love you" all the time. They can just sit outside on the porch together, holding hands, and not saying a word and know that they are loved.
I guess that is what maturity in Christ is all about. When you first get saved, you go through this "honeymoon" period where you feel the Lord's love all the time, and you excitedly share Christ with everyone you know, like a young couple who have just fallen in love. But then you go through wilderness times of testing and trials, then learn to trust the Lord by faith and not by sight. That is when mature love for Him deepens and you grow close to Him.

Thank you for all your comments and encouragement! Morningstar, I played your song when I first woke up and now I'll be singing it to myself all day. I love that - when I wake up with a praise song in my head or hear it first thing and have it with me all day. God is so good! Shiloh, thanks for your words on agape love and how much God loves us. Yesterday my grandkids came for a visit and the toddler yelled Nana and ran to me when he saw me - there was such joy in his face and voice. What a wonderful picture of how we will run to Jesus when we see Him - unrestrained, overwhelming love and joy, knowing He will give us the hug we've been waiting for all this time. Leeza and Elizabeth, thanks for the reminders to walk by faith, not by feeling. Your right. Feelings are unpredictable at best and not a true picture of God's love for us. I'm so glad He gave us His word so we don't have to rely on how we feel.

Nana, I'm so glad you have these little grandchildren in your life. And what a wonderful parallel this is.

I had a dream once from the Lord - where I "saw" Him upon the Throne of Heaven. I couldn't see Him directly, His form was veiled from me. The Throne was "boxy", as in straight edges and corners. It was made from what looked like a pink jasper. I heard a voice speak to me. I'm not sure if it was the Lord or an angel, but I suspect it was Christ. This is what He said to me: "If you know Jesus is Lord here on Earth, how much more in Heaven?" At that moment, my alarm went off. GRR!! But I always think about that whenever I wonder what God is like. I know Jesus is Lord right now. But how much more will I KNOW that in Glory? Praise the Lord! inspirably.com/quotes/by-rebecca-goings/if-you-know-jesus-is-lord-here-on-earth-how-much-more-inAttachments:

What an awesome dream, Becka. That just sounds like something an agel or the Lord would say, too! If I had a dream like that and my alarm woke me up, I'd have thrown it against the wall! That was bugging me about the pink jasper so I had to go find a picture of what it looks like... It was hard though because they also label red jasper under pink jasper. Obviously, the red is more red than pink. Was it like this? or this, maybe?

I would LOVE to have a dream of Jesus!! I prayed for the longest time that I could have one of HIM but never have. A year an half ago I had a very awesome experience though....I bolted up out of a deep sleep about a minute before my alarm clock was set to wake me up, and heard inside me a voice say " let your light shine!" I think I was able to hear it so clearly because I was still half in my subconscious state. I couldn't stop thinking about it ...it made me feel so warm and happy. A few months passed and as I was sitting at the dinner table I thought back to that voice I heard and really soaked it in....I started crying because I felt so overwhelmed with the LOVE that had come out of that voice ...it was like I could still hear it clear as day. I called a friend to explain it to her but probably sounded like a babbling weirdo...I couldn't explain it but it was REAL and very POWERFUL!

Shiloh, I think I was mistaken when I said pink jasper. I went on the hunt and found what I'd actually seen, and it looked more like rose quartz. The "stone" of the Throne was "see-thru", not clear as crystal, but opaque, yet clear enough to see the light behind it (or emanating from it). The entire dream was of the figure on the Throne - light was EVERYWHERE, but the figure was veiled, like in a shadow almost. He was huge, I remember being about as tall as His big toe. I saw nothing else but light, the Throne, and the figure. No angels, no sea of glass, nothing else. The Throne almost had an inner glow. It might have been a representation of God's glory. This is what it looked like:

NFFE, I've had similar experiences - it happens to me during that time when I'm either just about to fall asleep or just waking up. I'm wondering if the fact that we're not fully conscious allows for us to be more susceptible to the spirit realm. I suspect that's the case because I frequently get pestered by the enemy if I have to be on narcotic pain medication, which is the same kind of suppression of the consciousness.
