I'm not posting this because I think this is going to happen, or because I want this to happen, I'm posting it because it's in the news. - elizabeth PA Official: Abbas Ready for Israel as a Jewish StateA senior PLO official was quoted as saying that PA chief Mahmoud Abbas was prepared to recognize Israel as a Jewish state. A senior PLO official was quoted as saying that Palestinian Authority chief Mahmoud Abbas was prepared to recognize Israel – this time, for real. A story in Maariv Thursday quoted Nabil Amaro as saying on PA television that Abbas would agree to recognize Israel as a Jewish state, as part of the negotiations being conducted by US Secretary of State John Kerry. Israel has insisted that the PA recognize Israel as the homeland of the Jewish people, and so far Abbas has refused to do so. According to Abbas, the PA has already recognized Israel's right to exist and has promised to respect whatever borders are negotiated. By recognizing Israel as a Jewish state, he claims, the rights of Israeli Arabs will be damaged, and the PA would no longer be able to demand that Israel accept hundreds of thousands of Arabs, as the PA is demanding. to continue reading click here

Wow, this is exactly what I was referring to on another thread about Netanyahu agreeing in principal about Kerry's peace agreement where Jerusalem would be divided, and how Jerusalem is the key issue here. Even though some have said that the only reason Netanyahu agreed is because he knew that Abbas would never agree to it which is probably true, but that is neither here nor there. The thing is there have been consequences whenever a PM has agreed to the dividing of the land that God has promised Israel especially that of Jerusalem. My whole point was that Netanyahu couldn't be 100% sure that Abbas wouldn't agree to the peace treaty, thereby that was a risk he was taking. This doesn't mean that it's going to happen, and I agree with you on that point Elizabeth, but that they are willing to go this length tells me that were that much closer to the "real deal" than we think. Excellent article, thanks for posting this.

Here's something interesting, it's another article but the source has a name, and more details are provided: PLO official: Palestinians could recognize Israel as 'Jewish state'Nabil Amro says recognition would have to be approved by referendum, could be possible if done in a way that doesn't embarrass Abbas or weakens a possible agreement. Ynetnews, AFP Published: 02.21.14, 18:28 / Israel News The Palestinian leadership could recognize Israel as a Jewish state if it is done in a way that doesn't embarrass PA President Mahmoud Abbas or weakens any possible peace accord between Israel and the Palestinians, a PLO official told Ma'an on Friday.
