I just thought of something before. Why would the Lord give us a name that only He and that person knows? Anyone up for that discussion?

Good question Shiloh...My thoughts are, just as He knows us personally, in the Kingdom He will also call us personally with the name He has chosen for us. If he can name each and every star in the universe he can also give each of his saints a name only He will know when He communicates with us. I think we will still have our names that we are known by here on earth and recognized by our loved ones. Just as Scripture shows, King David, Moses, Elijah are still referred to by their earthly names in some of the prophetic Scripture in regards to the end times and millennial kingdom. Just my opinion.

That is a good question, Shiloh.
That is a good point, Morningstar. I never thought of this, but it does make sense. Of course, there were a couple of cases where the Lord did change the earthly names of those on earth, like Abram became Abraham, and Saul became Paul. Anyway, I would assume that whatever name that the Lord has for us will be used for our private interaction with Him when He speaks to us on a one on one basis.

I think Margaret's nailed it. Names are pretty important things. They help us identify objects or places or people in a way that is collectively meaningful - so that when I say "Paris", you say "Paris, France, or Paris, Texas?" and look at me like I should have thought about where I was going with this sentence before I started.
Anyhoo, it does seem odd that you'd have a name that ISN'T collectively meaningful, doesn't it? ...and yet we'll know it, and He'll know it. I think it boils down to the fact that He knew us, before we were even knit together in our mother's womb. The name He gives us is because He knows us better than we know ourselves - and it will be uniquely ours, and His - a majestic 'inside joke' of sorts, without the comedy.

Benjamin, your so funny..we were looking at you and wondering where you were going with that sentence Listen, I'll be satisfied with whatever name the Lord gives us as long as it's not "Hey You"!!

I was laughing at that too, Margaret. That is so funny about "Hey you!" I'll probably have a special name that isn't printable, but it starts with an "A". hahahahahahaha......I am just cracking myself up tonight. But seriously, doesn't it make you wonder what your name will be? Since HE knew us before we were formed in our mother's womb, HE must have had a special name for us even then. Amazing, isn't it?

This is a good topic Shiloh!! You know what it makes me think of is when I was a little kid my dad had a nickname for each of me and my sisters. No one else called us the name he chose but him. That's what I think of when this topic comes up. It was a silly nickname for each of us, so not sure if that's what the Lord is talking about!
I imagine His name for us has a lot more meaning but then again, it may be a silly name that when you hear it you know our Father is just being silly...that you are not in trouble or anything like that. You knew when you heard it it was a loving term.
That was a really good point MS re: Moses, Elijah etc and their names.

No one noticed the pattern on my kitty's head? It looks like an "M". I think that's the special name the Lord gave her that only she and Him know. I'm just guessing at what it stands for, though. It stands for "Meow". hahahahaha That's just my hypothesis.
