Leeza, Becka saw the movie Son of God and has written a review of it. It was just posted in a different section.
At some point this board is divided into different sections such as General Discussion, Contribution from Members, Help and Support, and the Shoutout Box - you want to get back to the page with these divisions. This is the page where peoples names are written on the bottom of the screen.
You want the Contribution from Members screen, and you will find the thread by Becka.
Hope this helps.

Thank you so much, Elizabeth. I didn't see Becka's review of the movie in the Contributions of Members section before I posted this. Yes, I agree with you, Shiloh, it was an excellent review. I guess my question was: Do you think that the article is true about Roma Downey and Mark Burnett being New Agers instead of the Christians they claim to be?

Leeza, you might want to check out the Hollywood gets religion thread. They discussed this movie and this couples New Age background, was it real or not.

From what I've read and heard, it seems people's opinions on this project fall into two categories; with the first being the, "Yes, I know they leave out some truth, but overall I think it's a very good film that God can use in the lives of unbelievers". And the other being the, " With the New Age Beliefs of at least one of the two driving forces behind this project and leaving some portions of scripture unstated, I think I'll pass on this one" crowd. It's inevitable that discussions / concerns arise when a major project that mixes art and faith is released.

Thank you so much for your input, Jim. You have a good point there. I'm more inclined to be of the latter category.

Yeah, Jim, me either. I am of the mindset that "A little leaven leavens the whole lump" Galations 5:9

I just visited another site where everyone was raving about this movie, which made me realize something about myself, generally speaking:
When everyone's running ← ← that way, I'm usually walking that way →→
EDIT:
This just dawned on me. The creators of "Son of God", in effect, censored God. How? By cutting out "...no man cometh unto the Father, but by me" Censoring God ... no wonder I don't want to see this movie.
Luke 9:26
Mark 8:38

You know, Shiloh, I did see Becka's eloquent review and I appreciate the fact that she took the time to share her perspective with us all. I just have a hard time getting past the fact that they censored God in the movie. It's funny, someone pointed this out on another website, a website where everyone is falling all over themselves with praise for the film, and that website [yep, THAT one] deleted his post. So, in essence, Burnett and Downey censored God and that website censored the poster for pointing it out (amongst other issues he had with the film). Geesh. From Mirriam-Webster.comcen·sor noun \ˈsen(t)-sər\ : a person who examines books, movies, letters, etc., and removes things that are considered to be offensive, immoral, harmful to society, etc. Luke 9:26 Mark 8:38

I'm surprised they left that out of there because even though Jesus IS God (His Diety and Supremacy in the Holy Trinity), that Scripture verse would be important for all to understand that "No one comes to the Father but by Me." I'm not all hung up on a lot of detail where it comes to those who it may draw to Christ because they simply don't know anything in Scripture. However, that was the whole message when the veil was rent. It meant we had complete access to God the Father. But, look at it this way too. He who honors the Son honors the Father. Your thoughts.....It's a simple question, Jim. If the moon were made of barbequed spare ribs would ya eat it then?...lololol...I know you'll get that.

**Scratching my head** I am more confused again. And I just saw on another site people falling all over praising this movie. I am taking a wait and see posture. I enjoyed and appreciated Becka's review, but I also appreciate other sisters and brothers-in-Christ's concerns...
Wait... did someone mention BBQ spare ribs?? Mmmm....

I haven't seen the movie yet, and though I don't feel particularly driven to, I probably will eventually see it (when it comes out on DVD etc. or something).
Generally I think movies tread an incredibly fine line when it comes to Scripture. You simply can't afford to take anything away from what has been said or done. Now, I don't think that means that you have to mention EVERYTHING - but when you take something away contextually (such as "no man comes to the Father, but through me"), you end up taking away from the very essence of who Jesus is, and that's very, very dangerous.
As it is, it sounds like the image of Jesus presented in the movie falls fairly neatly into the New Age idea that Jesus was a great teacher, and perhaps *A* son of God, but no more divine than you or I. While perhaps not stated strongly, leaving that door open can be very dangerous... and while God can use ANYTHING for His glory, the ends don't justify the means. God could just as easily use something horrific (see the story of Joseph, where "you meant it for evil; God used it for good).
I guess I'll have to watch it now, to make a more informed decision on the topic!

Yeah, that's how I am too, Jim. Even back in High School where the peer pressure was heavy and people were into drugs and God knows what else....like you, I went walking (or in some cases, running) in the opposite direction.
Amen to that, Jim! They removed the core of the Christian faith right there. Reminds me of Oprah's assertion that there are many roads that lead to God.
You said that very well, Benjamin.

I haven't read Becka's review and I haven't seen the movie but I don't plan to watch it anyway. Judging just by the movie's trailer, it is not faithful to the Bible. And taking on a worldly perspective, it is just another B-Rated or second-rate movie, I am pretty sure.

Okay, since I'm the only one here (so far) who's actually seen the movie, I must protest this statement, and all the conjecture, really. Certain Christians whip themselves up into a frenzy over conjecture (including the brother on THAT site), and therefore I want to set the record straight here. I enjoyed the movie despite it's flaws. Did they take liberty with Scripture wording? Yes, the dialog in the movie is not 100% accurate. If that alone is enough for you not to watch, I can respect that. But considering the movie is only 2hrs and 30mins, they have to cut/condense for sake of time. They didn't rehash a lot of stuff they already covered in the miniseries, so certain scenes they already showed aren't in the movie.
However, just because "no one comes to the Father but through me" was omitted, running with it to suggest a New Age agenda is nothing more than conjecture based on hearsay of Roma Downey. If you've watched the movie and can defend your position, by all means do so. The movie is not perfect, I will admit. I'm not some nominal Christian cheerleader who doesn't know any better. But unless you're thick, the movie heavily leans on the Godhood of Christ. Considering the movie used John's Gospel as the backdrop, the deity of Christ did shine forth.
In the movie, the following claims were made:
John 1:1 in it's entirety: In the beginning was the Word, the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
John 1:14: And the Word became flesh
Apostle John says on Patmos, "He was always with us" - while showing scenes of God's miracles in the OT, clearly alluding His deity.
Christ is acknowledged as Messiah
Christ claimed authority to forgive sin
Christ is the Resurrection and the Life
Christ is the Way, the Truth, and the Life
Peter admitted that Christ is the Son of God (ie., that He IS God)
He proclaimed to the Pharisees they would see Him coming with the clouds of Heaven at the right hand of God (ie., that He IS God)
At His trial, they asked Him if He was the Son of God - He said, "I AM". All the Pharisees understood, I should hope the audience did too (ie., that He IS God)
He told Pilate His Kingdom is not of this world, and if it was, His servants would be fighting so He wouldn't be handed over (John 18:36)
He said He is the Alpha and Omega, the First and the Last (ie., that He IS God)
Ending credits song was "Mary, Did You Know?", which has lyrics that leave no ambiguity
Again, I say, if you've seen the movie, by all means critique it. But let's not grab our pitchforks and torches over conjecture and hearsay.

Repentance, however, was not highlighted in the film. Having faith and believing was the theme. That, more than anything, is what I would seriously ding this movie for.
Even so, the dialog with Nicodemus in John 3 was pretty much intact about needing to be born again to see the Kingdom of God.

Who suggested that?
Just so everyone knows, I had no desire to see this movie even before it came out. But now that it's out, I'm wondering why the filmmakers felt the need to censor a crucial verse regarding salvation? I'm also wondering why that particular website felt the need to censor someone questioning the movie? I think I may know the answer to the last question, but I'm really hoping someone has the answer to the first.

Since it was my review posted here and elsewhere, and since it was mentioned that fellow Christians are "falling all over themselves with praise" for the movie, I felt my position needed to be clarified, because the statement, by innuendo, suggests they don't know their Bible.

I haven't been on THAT site (lol) in quite awhile. In all fairness, it isn't right for anyone to comment, including me, as far as the movie goes because we haven't seen it. I'll wait for that until I see it.

Shiloh, it's stated as fact that the second half of John 14:6 was left unsaid in this movie (more than once). I wish I could find the comment now (I tried but I can't), but one person said that 2 or 3 people in the audience where he was viewing the film finished the verse by calling out ( Luke 19:40 ), "no man cometh unto the Father, but by me". So I think it's fair to comment on a fact related to this film, even if one has not viewed the film. Like I asked before, why would that portion of God's Word be left out? We may never find the answer, but I think I can say with confidence that who(m)ever made that decision was not being led by The Holy Spirit at the time.

Yes, Jim, and not only that, another concern I have is when you mix New Age with Christianity. New Age comes from the devil. The devil will fool people with half-truths. I think it's a dangerous thing spiritually for a Christian to expose themselves to a film that has even a speck of New Age connotations in it.
