I was wondering when Satan was going to pull this one out of his bag of deceit again...... Yahoo News. Hundreds of Belgians flock to glowing Virgin Mary statue Brussels (AFP) - Hundreds of people have been flocking to a house in southern Belgium to catch a glimpse of a small statue of the Virgin Mary which reportedly glows in the dark. Local media reported that on Wednesday, 500 people visited the house in the normally quiet town of Jalhay to witness what is being referred to as "the mysterious glowing Virgin". Police have been required to bolster their presence around a pavilion erected by the retired Belgian owners of the statue, which witnesses suggest lets out a dull glow after dark. The phenomenon was first noticed in mid-January and has gradually attracted larger crowds, with local media reporting that some of those visiting the statue claim to have been cured of a skin condition. The statue, about 30 centimetres (one foot) in height, represents the "Virgin of Banneux", from the name of a nearby village where in 1933 a young girl was said to have witnessed an appearance by the Virgin. The town has since become a pilgrim destination in largely Catholic Belgium, although Catholic authorities from the Banneux sanctuary are expressing caution about the "glowing" Virgin. "It's certain that something is going on but I can't tell you whether there is a natural or a miraculous explanation," said Father Leo Palm, who was sent to investigate the statue by the bishop of Liege. The owners of the statue have refused to allow it to be removed for further examination, saying "she is fine where she is". Yahoo linkFair Use for Discussion Purposes

refusal for further examination means the owner covered the statue with glow in the dark spray paint...hahahahahahaa. People will fall for anything and call it a miracle. What was that saying by P.T. Barnum? "There's a sucker born every minute." I think that was him who said that but I could be wrong.

Well, regarding matters of doctrine especially, when people aren't well versed in the Word, yes, yes they will, Shiloh.
I didn't think this was from God, but I didn't think of glow-in-the-dark spray paint right away either when I read this. The devil has a bunch of tricks up his sleeve, but glow-in-the-dark spray paint didn't occur to me that it could be one of them. Lol, I can be pretty clueless sometimes.

I agree with that John but why wouldn't the owner want it examined? I have seen too many of these things on shows where they investigate and they were all debunked. I'm not saying Satan doesn't have tricks up his sleeve and I agree it's because people don't know Scripture. I believe the verse "My people suffer for lack of knowledge" not only applies to Israel but to the church also.

Spray paint does make sense, I wasn't saying it doesn't. I was just pointing out my cluelessness for not thinking of that right away. I don't know of other reasons why they wouldn't want it examined, maybe the owners didn't want to be bothered with it, or maybe they are firm on believing that it's actually a miracle and so refuse to have it examined because that's what they believe. But spray paint does make sense, I agree.

I thought of that too, John but I say, "If you spray paint it, they will come"...like the stadium..."If you build it, they will come." lol

If they really did spray paint it and it's not more of a supernatural trick, I don't understand what people expect to gain from faking these things. 15 minutes of attention? Especially if they believe in God, I can't understand how they would even sleep at night by faking something like this and knowing they were deceiving hundreds of people. It's sad, isn't it?

I'm sure the money they're getting from people who are coming to visit will help them sleep better...

We should not be surprised by the occurrence of signs and wonders, whether fake or not. They encourage me because they point to prophetic times! Mat 16:4b (NIV) "A wicked and adulterous generation looks for a miraculous sign."

Hey, Lavoietheway, good point. I remember when we'd have to kneel on the floor and pray to Mary at my grandmother's during Novenas. I think my dad and me were the only ones that got it when they saw a golden hue reflecting off of a huge oak across the street against a dark sky. They all thought it as a sign that Mary was listening to their prayers. You would have to have been there but, I was thinking, "It's the sun refecting off the tree because it's coming out now." I was only 8 and I knew that much. It was no miracle. So, my dad turns around and looks at me and we both knew what eachother were thinking. The only problem was, my dad was really good at keeping a straight face while he was actually laughing. Well, I busted out laughing and boy was everybody mad at me (except for my dad) because I apparently was being disrespectful in regards to Mary and the "miracle" she showed us.
