"Blood-stained money, blood-stained power, you can't bring it with you to your next life. Repent," he said. He was speaking at a prayer vigil for relatives of those killed by the mafia. That was kind of random. Or did anything spark it and cause him to say that comment?
Isn't it a little ironic, though? I mean, the Catholic church has established itself, notably in its beginnings through persecution even of the Jewish people, and now is a very wealthy and renowned institution.

John, the article noted, so I don't know who organized it, or why. It was interesting that they got the Pope to come. As for the chances of the institution of the Catholic Church seeing the irony, I don't think they're good.
