"Danon: Peace talks going nowhere, Palestinians only want terrorists freed
(...)
"It is clear to all sides that the negotiations are leading nowhere and it good that the Palestinians understand that Israel will not make it concessions without receiving anything in return," Danon said.
"The true face of the Palestinians was revealed when they declared that their sole aim was to free terrorists," he added.
Israel has reportedly informed the Palestinian Authority that it will not release a fourth and final batch of prisoners expected to be freed as part of peace negotiations, a Palestinian official said Friday." Fair use for educational and discussion purposes

... I was afraid of this.

I did not know they admitted they are going through this just for prisoner release. This article looks interesting. The Palestinians have not given anything up in return for the release of prisoners. No one seems to recognize this outside of Israel. It is such a charade.

I didn't know they admitted to it either. It actually sounded odd to me when I read it, but The Jerusalem Post is a reliable news website as far as I've always been able to tell, and it's not surprising that the Palestinians would take advantage of this. Most of what I've seen coming out of these peace talks for the past few months are news of Israel releasing more and more prisoners. Now they decided to withhold the release of the final batch of prisoners, so something must be up. Israel's enemies apparently only want the Israelis gone, and it seems to me that they have no interest in peace deals. It's sad, but it's the world we're in.

I am so glad that Israel is refusing to release those prisoners, look at what happened the last time they released prisoners (around 300+ I think)...absolutely nothing, they again got the short end of the stick...I think Israel is pretty fed up with this Administration and their "Let's make a deal" attitude.

Yes, it seems that way to me too, MS. The way they said "fourth and final batch of prisoners expected to be freed as part of peace negotiations" makes it clear the Palestinians were counting on this from the very beginning, and it's a very good possibility that they were indeed taking advantage of it without any actual intent for peace. I think the Israelis are mostly tired of the fact that the Palestinians seem to have no interest in peace, and all these negotiations probably do get tiring as well, especially if no real progress is made.
It's good to keep Israel in our prayers, that the Lord may protect them and help them make the right decisions.

I'm glad Israel decided not to release the prisoners. I think they would have looked rather stupid if they had, given the Palestinian admission and their behavior.
I'm sure there will be backlash from the Palestinians, even though Israel has released 78 prisoners already.

I agree, Elizabeth. I think I spotted another headline earlier from a few days ago in which the Palestinians basically threatened to go to the UN if Israel doesn't release the prisoners. Here is an excerpt:
""There are two parts to the American agreement. Israel agreed to release prisoners, Palestinians agreed not to appeal to UN organizations," Ajrami stated, implying that the PA will not feel obligated to their part if Israel does not fulfill its side of the deal. (...)
“The only chance that we will agree to extend the talks will be if [Prime Minister Binyamin] Netanyahu declares a settlement construction freeze and the releasing of more prisoners.”" Fair use for educational and discussion purposes
Full article (The Jerusalem Post)
Isn't that last sentence so convenient? It's not "we will agree to the peace deal." It's "we will agree to extend the talks." They've been dragging this to see how much they can milk this cow for their own profit. They have no interest in peace. I don't understand why the US admin. can't see this.

Are they delaying release or is it a definite that this set of prisoners will not be released at all?

Rieom, for now at least it seems they have gone back on their decision to release the prisoners, I'm not sure if that's temporary until things get a little clearer, or permanent. I think it's been like this for a few days now. Regardless of whether or not they end up releasing the prisoners, out of pressure, I think this will end up badly. The way I see it, if the Palestinians really wanted peace, they would have agreed to something by now.
It just breaks my heart to see Israel being put on the spot like this by greed and hatred.

A quick update from today on these peace talks and the prisoner release:
"US: No Palestinian prisoner release is 'violation of terms' of talks
American sources tell Post that the US fears consequences of Israel's failure to release final group of prisoners; Israel says it is willing to release prisoners if talks continue.
(...)
Meanwhile, Israel said it is willing to release a fourth batch of convicted Palestinian terrorists, but not if the Palestinians say that they will end the negotiations directly after the release, a highly-placed Israeli official said Saturday night." Fair use for educational and discussion purposes
Full article (The Jerusalem Post)
Bottom line, Israel is once again threatened with "consequences," and the Palestinians will most likely get their way. I pray that I'm wrong in thinking and fearing that the worst will come out of this if that last batch of prisoners is released.

Should any of this really be any surprise to any of us?

LOL at that picture.
Shiloh, you're right, perhaps it's not surprising. This is, after all, the world we're living in. I still care for Israel, though, and seeing these things grieves me in a way because it seems like every single country either does not care for Israel or is somehow making things worse for them. I know that God will protect them ultimately, I just hope they know that too and trust in Him.

Let's not forget that Obama already threatened that if Israel didn't come to terms with the Palestineans, he'd act unilaterally to establish a Palestinean State.

Looks like they are being intimated again. If they release prisoners, then the government may fall apart. Could that be an aim the US is going for? It would mean someone may get in charge which will go along with the US wishes.
Am I also right in thinking that these prisoners will be able to go back to their homes even if they resided in Israel. In essence, the families of those they killed will be living with these murderers.
