Pakistan: Nine-Month-Old Baby Appears in Court for Attempted Murder of Police Officer
A nine-month-old baby boy has appeared in court in Pakistan amid astonishing accusations of his "involvement" in the attempted murder of a police officer.
Moosa Khan appeared before a court in Lahore along with several members of his family accused of throwing stones at a team of police and bailiffs who came to cut the gas at their home.
Footage in Pakistan media even shows the child being fingerprinted for official court documents.
The boy's grandfather, Muhammad Yaseen, and uncles also appeared in court accused of attacking officers and gas company employees with wooden rods and stones after they arrived at their home.
The complainant, ASI Kashif, said the family chased him away and beat him around the head and threatened to kill him, according to reports.
Police then filed complaints against Yaseen's entire family, which also included his nine-month old grandson, who was nominated in the FIR (First Information Report) and taken to court, reported The Express Tribune.
After the video of the child at the court went viral online, police suspended Kashif for lodging the complaint against the child. Police added they would not have continued with proceedings against the Moosa if they knew how young he was.
DIG Jabbar said: "A nine month old can never commit such a crime. This incident took place due to sheer misunderstanding on the police's part and was not done on purpose."
The boy was granted bail following his court appearance.
