I am hearing rumors that the elks are now leaving Yellowstone. Is anyone else hearing this?

This is the video in question - but before I post it, nowhere in the original is anybody suggesting that Elk are leaving Yellowstone. In fact, they're not even IN Yellowstone, they're just crossing a road in Montana. Someone has used this video to add fuel to the "Bison are leaving Yellowstone!!!!!!1!1!1!eleven!!1!" fire.
Welcome to the new Internet, where anything is true, as long as you have enough YouTube videos to prove it.

Oh, and also - the original video of the Bison was of the creatures running INTO Yellowstone - not out of it. The guy who posted that video on YouTube came forward to clear up the confusion..
That video was also originally posted on YouTube (under a completely different name to the one being circulated lately) two weeks BEFORE the earthquake hit.

Why do people do that, are they making money off how many hits their videos get or is an ego trip?

Yeah, both. Often these stories end up on sites like BeforeItsNews.com - where they get a huge viewership - and link back to their own sites, which provides advertising revenue. Ultimately it rarely matters how factual these stories are, provided that they're sensational enough to get click-throughs.
YouTube is a slightly different prospect - people can make money through YouTube; sometimes LOTS of money. The more views, the more revenue - and so again, it trends toward sensationalism. That's why people like BPEarthwatch rarely 'temper' their content with logic and reason, or issue retractions when they screw up - they just move forward to the next sensational story.
It also means that sites like these are really difficult to gauge anything from, because you can rarely tell who is reputable and who isn't, without digging deeper. This particular video is an excellent example of that - the original is just an innocuous video taken of Elk crossing a road - it's interesting because it's a huge herd, and because the little one at the end nearly gets left behind (tell me you didn't say "hooray!" when he made it!) - but because of the recent Bison video (which was in itself misrepresented), someone used it to build on an already shaky story, adding sensationalism. Of course, the whole thing has gone viral. The ridiculous thing is that this has absolutely nothing to do with Yellowstone anyway... but there it is.

I am so sorry you guys.......but I'm laughing so hard...you would not believe. I just sat down again (my husband tells me that I shouldn't try to multitask and I type while I'm standing and doing other stuff)...so I sat down clicked on this thread and doesn't this commercial for a law firm called Elk and Elk come on? And my husband said, "What are you laughing at?"....then I had to grab some kleenex...the timing was so funny on that. One of those things you had to be there for...lol...

Looks like I need to make a YouTube video so I can become rich...
I read your post Shiloh and it reminds me that God has a sense of humor. That was just so random and perfect timing.

Yes! God DOES have a sense of humour. He gets through to me in really funny ways a lot of times....but on this commercial, as I was reading everyone's posts, that commercial came on and near the end they say. "Call Elk and Elk." hahahaha

God shows me his humor often and I will burst out laughing. We all can share some humor but at other times it is our sense of humor and God gets our quirky humor. Just amazes me.

Now, that is an entirely different question.
If you ask me if I think Yellowstone is going to erupt - that's a very different question. There's nothing to the videos about Bison and Elk; there's plenty to be said about Yellowstone. I've said it before, but I think if it does erupt, it will be a Tribulation event. The fact that there's activity there now just suggests how close that time is.

Shiloh: I am reading and reading and reading thinking how does this correlate with Yellowstone. Then when I got to the video I laughed so hard. Do you think you need to have Elk in your backyard and say goodbye to the cats?
Benjamin: I have wondered if there is a news blackout on Yellowstone. I feel we get little info on what is going on there.

LOL, Rieom! I never thought about that. On a serious note, I have to agree with that, Benajmin. I always thought it would be a Tribulation event also. You know what? That article that I posted on this thread was also on the late, late news last night. That article wasn't the source, but they were talking about the same thing with all these volcanoes erupting.

Oh my gosh Shiloh another reference to the elk! That is too much. You must have needed laughter in your day, it sure provided me with a lot.
