Boy, was I ever relieved to read THIS! Looks like there's hope afterall.
Francis looks to heal Church with two pope saints
Vatican City (AFP) - Pope Francis aims to unite conservative and reformist strands of Catholicism with the first canonisation of two popes this month -- an impressive masterstroke that has already stirred dissent in some quarters.
Conferring sainthood on John XXIII and John Paul II means bringing together two distinct schools of thought on what a pope should be -- a humble parish priest figure or a globetrotting, charismatic superstar.
John Allen, a Vatican affairs expert at the Boston Globe in the United States, has written that the joint canonisation shows Francis's "inclusive spirit".
"Francis is speaking not just to the outside world but to rival camps within the Catholic fold who see John XXIII and John Paul II as their heroes -- meaning liberals and conservatives, respectively," he said.
Just a few months into his reign, Francis broke with tradition last year by dramatically propelling the canonisation case for John XXIII -- known as "Good Pope John" and a pontiff with whom he shares similarities.
Less widely known than Poland's Karol Wojtyla, Italy's Angelo Roncalli played a key role in modernising Catholicism in the 1960s and to this day inspires progressives who want a more down-to-earth Church.

Right.
...because that's what's wrong with the Catholic church.

Lololol, I have to say I agree with Benjamin on this one... Canonisation is a bad thing in itself for starters. It gives people the idea that saints are those to whom the Catholic church chooses to do a ceremony to "confer" that 'title' because of their "holiness" of works. That's why you see "Saint this" and Saint that". But saints are those that have been born again and belong to God, because of His righteousness that He gives us, not ours, and it's not really a title to put before people's names (Although it would look nice on one of those fancy name plaques. LOL. I'm kidding.).
There's this expression around here that we say to 'humble' ourselves if you will: "Oh, don't get me wrong, I'm no saint myself." ... Well, now, if I for one said that I'd have to say, "Well, actually, that's not true, I am a saint.", and then watch the Catholic people I know be all shocked.

John, I made that comment (tongue in cheek) as in sarcasm. That's why I put the'wink' smilie there.

I'd have to say, "Well, actually, that's not true, I am a saint.", and then watch the Catholic people I know be all shocked. ...I do this all the time. I rather like being provocative.

Lol, I figured Shiloh had something up her sleeve with this. Haha, Benjamin, people's reactions to certain things are one of the things I like to observe more as well. I think sometimes they're just hilarious.

The way I see it, is that the Catholic Church has taken the Authority away from Jesus as our High Priest, Mediator, and Savior, and placed that upon themselves to decide who and who isn't a Saint. They are the High Priest who have the keys to the Kingdom, they are the Mediators in whom you have to confess your sins, they are the Savior in which only through the RCC can you enter heaven. All in all, they have placed themselves on the Throne of God and only use the Name of Jesus as a byword to draw the multitudes. That is my assessment in a nutshell.

Not just that, Morningstar, they made this earth seem like the Throne of God, by establishing themselves so wealthily, looking to spread peace and working to build a "better world", while ignoring end-times prophecy, even now. Thankfully this world isn't it.

I agree BJ, the RCC are amillennialist, and believe the Church has to bring about the Kingdom of God by converting the world to Christianity in order to prepare the way for the Second Coming of Christ....Yeah right!!...As if our God of heaven is just sitting up there just waiting for the RCC to complete their mission.
