The Pilsen neighborhood in Chicago is "a slice (albeit, a big one) of Mexico" on the lower westside. This morning I made the mistake of trying to drive North (on Ashland), while this Good Friday reenactment parade(?) was going east-west (on 18th). I ended up going around (way around) to get to my destination; people were parking up to a mile away to attend this event. My initial reaction was that it reminded me of my Catholic upbringing, with all of the drama and pagentry. And then I thought, "With the condition of the world today, maybe this isn't such a bad thing". What do you think? I think it would be awesome if it ended with a clear explanation of God's provision for our sins and how to receive it. Unfortunately, since this a "Catholic thing", I don't think that happens. I wonder what they were thinking as they were participating.
Sometimes, these 'worldly spiritual' events do bring about spiritual fruit in someones life. Sometimes a person may be unaware of the effect, but it is there.
More often though, these are just events where people are going through the motions and socializing. That is my opinion anyway.

I completely agree, Elizabeth, but it's night and day when compared to the drunken spectacle that's otherwise known as ... well, you know what I'm taking about. I inadvertently drove through a northside neighborhood a couple of summers ago when that parade had just ended. I was really discouraged to see how many women had brought their children to watch that.
So, all things considered, I can't see any downside to this remembrance of Christ's death.

I don't see anything wrong with it either. I agree with both of you.

Actually, after watching this video again, I think it's a nice tradition (performed with the same intent as the movie "Passion Of The Christ"). Notice the gentleman wearing the "FBI" hat overcome with emotion at the 6:07 mark ... I'm guessing he wasn't the only one (kind of like me watching the movie version).

Yes, LS. I noticed that before. It reminded me somewhat of the Centurion in the Bible.
