Palestinians' Mahmoud Abbas calls Holocaust 'heinous crime'Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas has called the Holocaust "the most heinous crime" in modern history. The remarks were released ahead of Israel's Holocaust memorial day. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Mr Abbas "can't say the Holocaust is terrible while... embracing those who seek the destruction of the Jewish people". Israel is opposed to a recent unity deal between Mr Abbas's Fatah group and its Islamist rival Hamas. To continue reading this BBC article click here

Thanks for sharing, Elizabeth! I was just posting a video about this on Rieom's thread in "General Discussion." I'll post it here too if you don't mind. It's a short interview with Netanyahu on CNN.

There was an article in another paper, about Hamas recognizing Israel, but you couldn't say if they were coming out and recognizing Israel or not.
Even though the Palestinians have done something that has sunk themselves with the Israeli's, I think they want this peace deal. That, or they want to appear to this peace deal. Whether they actually do, is another thing. With them, I think it's all about appearances.

Appearances and demands. They really like to come out with demands too.
Hamas could lie about wanting peace with Israel, but I think Netanyahu will see through it. I hope he will, at least.

I think that's exactly it, Liz. Abbas wants this to "appear as a peace process". I don't trust that guy as far as I can throw him (which isn't very far) but they will say anything to gain confidence from the west. Ya gotta love Benjamin Netanyahu. He is far from stupid. Our media and public are so naive. He's been dealing with terrorists for a lonnnng time. He's cagey and politically smart. He's on top of his game, boy! (for lack of a better term). If anyone thinks that the PA or Hamas will 'recognize' Israel and not seek to destroy them, then they don't know prophecy. They're all in Psalm 83 as part of the coalition who goes against Israel, along with other terrorist organizations. Notice how all the terrorist organizations are making nice, nice with eachother now? There's a reason for that. Even Hezbollah is willing to make peace with Hamas. Their thinking (as they plot against Israel) is, "Sure, we'll recognize Israel....as we drive them into the sea." This whole thing with Abbas is nothing but a front and it's bad acting if you know their record.

I just read somewhere that Kerry made his remark about Israel turning into an apartheid state if they do not accept a peace treaty. From Israel's side came back the fact that they had agreed to the bones of a peace treat but Abbas has agreed to nothing. I feel like Abbas is trying to buy time and delay. He also wants those prisoners released and the billions of dollars that the US sends him.

I'm surprised Mahmoud Abbas took five minutes out of his busy day of planning how to drive all the Jews into the sea to make such a statement in the first place. Mind boggling.
