I think Israel will be attacked after the Rapture which I believe is revealed in Joel 1:2. See Joel 2:20 which helps show that the northern armies attack after the Rapture. See Ezekiel 38:18.
The first chapter of Joel may point to the Rapture, and then the the outset of the Tribulation. The following chapters reveal events leading up to the day of the Lord....
This one book appears to lay out the events from about the Rapture through Armageddon to the Second Coming and the millenial reign of Jesus....
Scripture has important questions and riddles to cause us to think, and can be important in seeking parallels, as Jesus taught us to do. There is much in Scripture about harvests, insects, worms and this is about spiritual destruction, not care of farm crops. A mystery, question or riddle in Scripture is to be considered and investigated.
Joel Chapter 1:
Joel 1:1 The word of the LORD that came to Joel the son of Pethuel.
[The word of the Lord comes to the prophet Joel, and he is asked a question.]
Joel 1:2 Hath this been in your days, or even in the days of your fathers?
[Some amazing thing has happened, seemingly like nothing before. Could this mean that the Church is gone, like grain in an immense harvest? Many Jews would realize that the Lord has done this.]
Joel 1:3 Tell your children of it, and let your children tell their children, and their children another generation.
[This is an extremely important event, to be told of for generations.]
Joel 1:5 Awake, ye drunkards, and weep; and howl, all ye drinkers of wine, because of the new wine; for it is cut off from your mouth.
[Drunkenness may indicate the people were careless of things of the spirit. Drinkers are told to howl because there is no new wine. Grape wine is made in summer and autumn, which may help as to the timing of these events.]
Joel 1:6 For a nation is come up upon my land, strong, and without number, whose teeth are the teeth of a lion, and he hath the cheek teeth of a great lion.
[This indicates that the attacking nation is like a "great lion." Persia's symbol is the lion. Iran. This verse speaks of an enemy nation and possibly this points to an attack upon Israel by one nation, soon after the Church is taken out. The nation attacking Israel is likened to a great lion. Satan also is likened to a lion in the Scriptures.]
Joel 1:9 The meat offering and the drink offering is cut off from the house of the LORD; the priests, the LORD'S ministers, mourn.
[The Jews are told there are no offerings being made to God from His house. Perhaps they realize those who had accepted the Messiah, Jesus, have been taken up from the earth.]
Joel 1:10 The field is wasted, the land mourneth; for the corn is wasted: the new wine is dried up, the oil languisheth.
[The harvests of Israel are failed and Israel mourns.]
Joel 1:11 Be ye ashamed, O ye husbandmen; howl, O ye vinedressers, for the wheat and for the barley; because the harvest of the field is perished.
[The Lord does not put blame on the military leaders. This is a denouncement of those who were to spiritually care for God's people of His fields and vineyard and did not do so. They are told to be ashamed. The barley and wheat crops, a spiritual harvest of souls, have been gathered in the Rapture. [A silent harvest of souls of the world has taken place, but the fields of Jewish souls, without Yeshua, stand ruined. Note these verses: Jer. 8:20. the summer is past, the harvest is over and we are not saved. Joel 2:25 ....
Joel 1:12 The vine is dried up, and the fig tree languisheth; the pomegranate tree, the palm tree also, and the apple tree, even all the trees of the field, are withered: because joy is withered away from the sons of men.
[Some will realize that they are the vine that is withered because they had rejected Yeshua. These may include the 144,000 sealed men from the 12 tribes of Israel. They realize they have been as a fruitless fig tree which withered when He came the first time and was not accepted as Messiah. Matt. 21:19, Mark 11:13]
Joel 1:13 Gird yourselves, and lament, ye priests: howl, ye ministers of the altar: come, lie all night in sackcloth, ye ministers of my God: for the meat offering and the drink offering is withholden from the house of your God.
[The priests and ministers of God are again told to lament, to howl. This verse strengthens the possibility that the invasion was in the spiritual realm, that the priests in Israel have failed. The Lord speaks to the seekers, tells them what to do.]
Joel 1:14 Sanctify ye a fast, call a solemn assembly, gather the elders and all the inhabitants of the land into the house of the LORD your God, and cry unto the LORD,
[Now Israel's people cry out to the Lord for help.]
Joel 1:15 Alas for the day! for the day of the LORD is at hand, and as a destruction from the Almighty shall it come.
[The time of His wrath is at hand. It is near the day of the Lord, the time of destruction from the Lord.]
Joel 1:19 O LORD, to thee will I cry: for the fire hath devoured the pastures of the wilderness, and the flame hath burned all the trees of the field.
[There is great need, and a cry is made to the Lord God of Israel. Fire has destroyed pastures and the trees. Compare: Rev. 8:7 The first angel sounded, and there followed hail and fire mingled with blood, and they were cast upon the earth: and the third part of trees was burnt up, and all green grass was burnt up.]
Joel 1:20 The beasts of the field cry also unto thee: for the rivers of waters are dried up, and the fire hath devoured the pastures of the wilderness.
[The beasts cry to God, the rivers are dried up, and the pastures burned.]
Joel 2:1 Blow ye the trumpet in Zion, and sound an alarm in my holy mountain: let all the inhabitants of the land tremble: for the day of the LORD cometh, for it is nigh at hand;
[The trumpet alarm sounds: the day of the Lord comes. This repeats the message of Joel 1:15.]
Joel 2:2 A day of darkness and of gloominess, a day of clouds and of thick darkness, as the morning spread upon the mountains: a great people and a strong; there hath not been ever the like, neither shall be any more after it, even to the years of many generations.
[The trumpet alarm is because Israel is being attacked by a great army. It is likely the Gog and Magog invasion....
Joel 2:6 Before their face the people shall be much pained: all faces shall gather blackness.
[This army causes God's people to suffer and people's faces to be darkened because of literal smoke or burns, and perhaps they show the emotions of distress and fear.]
Joel 2:10 The earth shall quake before them; the heavens shall tremble: the sun and the moon shall be dark, and the stars shall withdraw their shining:
[The invaders from the north move toward Israel. The Lord shows signs in the heavens. Jesus spoke of these things.]
Joel 2:11 And the LORD shall utter his voice before his army: for his camp is very great: for he is strong that executeth his word: for the day of the LORD is great and very terrible; and who can abide it?
[The Lord utters His voice before His army. It is the day of the Lord.]
Joel 2:12 Therefore also now, saith the LORD, turn ye even to me with all your heart, and with fasting, and with weeping, and with mourning:
[The Lord asks His people to turn to Him now with fasting, mourning.]
Joel 2:20 But I will remove far off from you the northern army, and will drive him into a land barren and desolate, with his face toward the east sea, and his hinder part toward the utmost sea, and his stink shall come up, and his ill savour shall come up, because he hath done great things.
[The Lord fully deals with the northern army which is Gog and Magog. He will bless the land and people of Israel. The "northern army" is to be driven away to a desolate land, toward "the utmost sea." This matches Joel up with the time of Ezekiel 38, when God first draws the northern army down and then rains fire and brimstone upon the attacking armies. See Joel 2:3. See notes at beginning of this.]
Joel 2:21 Fear not, O land; be glad and rejoice: for the LORD will do great things.
[The Jews have fasted, wept and sought the Lord. The Lord will do a marvelous thing and protects them from the army from the north, sending rain, hail, fire and brimstone down on their enemy. They will indeed rejoice.]
