Just thinking how times fly...Yesterday you were a teenager and today...well, were a lot older. But there are songs that are a bit nostalgic when your growing up especially as teenagers. Go ahead and post the song's of your teenage and young adult years...Secular included even if this is a Christian site, we all enjoyed secular music growing up. Here are some from my teenage, and young adult years...50's, 60's, 70's
1950's
1960"s
1970's

Great idea for a thread, Morningstar; I like your selections as well.
Here's a song from "The Who" that sums up my generation (from way back when):

In the last four weeks, Morningstar, I have revisited three different churches in some old stompin' grounds, one in which I raised my kids for years and at which I was an elder, another I left 11 years ago when I moved south 70 miles, and the third one a neighborhood church that my son-in-law invited me to. Your comment about what we remember about old tunes hit me hard. At today's seemingly more usual church worship services I feel like a complete anachronism -- which I suppose I really am. I love all those songs you have posted, and suspect I could list maybe a hundred; but I only want to comment that at these three different churches recently as I have participated in a total of about 1 3/4 hours of everyone around me singing, in all that time I only heard four songs I knew. All four of those I belted out with gusto! Yeah! It's odd too (anecdotal here) that a couple months ago while packing the contents of a closet upstairs, I ran across three tattered old hymnbooks that a church I attended briefly was tossing out. Challenging myself I spent well over an hour trying by inspection to see how many I knew. I found I probably could sing at least 15% to 20% of them, maybe more, and that I knew many words and could sing many verses and their bass parts, by heart.
So, what I do hope is that those of the more or less senior citizens among us watchers will soon (in Glory, of course) be able to get together and belt out some old hymns from memory. Maybe today's young whippersnappers will note the superior content of the old lyrics, theology, and tunes compared to their currently preferred 7/11 music, (seven word phrases sung 11 times), and we'll all praise our Lord in song using every fiber of our beings. I hope those hymns to come are in English, or maybe some other language I can learn quickly, and that I may remember the words from of old (early to mid 20th century). I also want to meet, and especially thank, Fanny Crosby for her awesome and matchless repertoire. Also, to thank George Friederich Handel for The Messiah, and for my endless hours spent enjoying its strains and theology.
Quiz: who sang about the hammer of justice, the bell of freedom, and the song about love between our brothers and our sisters...? What year? (hint - two were close associates of Jesus while on earth, and the other was blinded temporarily by Jesus.)

SG I bet those old Hymn's were really powerful. Sad to say, being raised in the RCC those old Hymns were not a part of the service. They had beautiful music, and most of the song's were in Latin. They had a nice melody (some anyway), but I never understood them. I've listened to some Old Hymns and they were beautiful, I can hardly wait to hear true "Heavenly Music" when we are all together singing the Lord's Praises....I can't even imagine. I just flunked the Quiz....don't know the answers. But here's two Hymns just for you SG...

Thanks sincerely, Morningstar, for those six plus minutes of old familiar hymns. I love them! We gotta' just love the internet, no? I'll bet the Lord has a far superior file retrieval system than the internet though. A microscopic iPod with a direct connection to our hearts and minds, able to locate and reproduce anything we could think up or remember...
Another hammer bell and song hint: PP&M...
Good night. May we all have pleasant and rapturous dreams...

SG, wasn't that Peter, Paul and Mary who sang that song? It was written by Pete Segar, wasn't it?
Here's some I remember well as a kid: The above is among them -
I'm so sorry! I couldn't resist this one below after the above song...lol I always loved Kermit, though. I have no clue what this guy was under the influence of....

Yes, Shiloh, you obviously got the hammer, bell and song answer. Good job! Peter and Mary walked with Jesus, and Paul was temporarily blinded.
Nostalgia all around us, no? Except for Yosemitebear... no nostalgia there for me, and I thank the Lord for deliverance up until now. That poor sap needs a life! He must be elated, though, about God's promise never again to destroy the world using a flood... or something like that !?!? Such passion, absent a chemical inducement, is rare.
PS - did you mean to post this more melodic video instead??
Yup! Gotta' love the internet...

Well, I'll say I'm lost in this thread.
I was never a "school girl," but I really liked that "To Sir, With Love" song when I saw it on "Glee" once. I think "Glee" did a really good job in bringing to memory older songs, in the first couple of seasons mainly. After that, things started getting more focused on basic plain storylines, the performances themselves and modern songs as opposed to focusing on and reimagining songs, and the show got stale, in my opinion.
But that's how I got to know and like a bunch of older songs. But going by these titles here, it's probably the only one I know.
I originally posted one thing I remember from my own 90s childhood, but I decided against it. The video and song are very inappropriate. But what I mostly remember from the radio on childhood years, of international songs, is Spice Girls, Dido, and The Cranberries. I didn't pay much attention to music at that time, though. I only got into music just before starting high school, in the 2000s.

Morningstar, I've often wondered the same thing.

We'd almost have to, LS and Morningstar. After all, what would a good Judgment Day or Bema Seat session be without us remembering the good and / or not-so-good works. Yeah, you could say, "Okay, Lord, I don't recall, but if I did that I'm sorry..." At that point God could remind us that He cannot lie. The only alternative to our own memory held internally for us uniquely within our own minds and souls, would then be externally, say maybe contained within some remarkable heavenly database for retrieval on demand... A new dimension of cloud based data storage. (I do see clouds blowing around up there.)
Maybe after the judgement, God could just hold down our on/off/reset button for several seconds and we'd then get a fresh download -- sort of start anew... You know, let's just perish that nasty thought!! I'm looking forward, for example, to spending eternity with my bride of 47 years and remembering all the good and the hard times... (Not to mention my kids' experiences, many of which I hope to forget...) It would at least provide valuable perspective if we could remember personal and even subtle things, and perhaps thereby help us be better judges of both mortals and angels.
Okay, that settles it! We'll remember!!
Right?

You make some good points, SG, but I still wonder... What about times with our loved ones who rejected the Lord and aren't with us in Heaven? Hard as it is now to think about them not being there, I'm sure it will be even worse in Heaven when we fully understand what those in hell are going through. It feels like it would suck at least some of the joy out of Heaven if I was thinking about what I could/should have done or said to them to maybe help them find the Lord. I talk to them now but obviously I'm not doing it well - they still aren't following Him.
But I agree the judgments won't work out to well if we don't remember. And memories would provide perspective for us... I don't know but I hope to find out before much longer!

Okay, wait...I have to stop laughing. I just completely lost my whole train of thought after reading everyones posts. I agree with that thought, SG. If we do remember any loss, I believe it will be very brief - a nano second. If we are told as in Scripture, we will be known as we are known, I believe it will be those parts of each person that people love and not the down side. John, I liked Glee too. I thought they were all so talented and really liked the way they redid songs. I had another song I wanted to post but completely forgot what it was after I was laughing.

Sly and the Family Stone combined Soul, Rock and Funk to create a unique sound that left its mark on the world of music. The story of its founder, Sylvester Stewart, is quite interesting (to say the least) which is why I'm linking a 2011 NY Post article that tells his story. Below is a video of the band.Funk legend Sly Stone homeless and living in a van in LA Here's a medley they performed on the Ed Sullivan show:

I, uh... have all their albums still. The album whose cover is shown on the video above ("II"), was the first album I ever bought... and I still listen to it to this day, although... I have to be honest and say that I really don't listen to non-Christian music much anymore. Not that I have an issue with it, necessarily (I'm listening to Michael Buble as we speak), but... it's just not where my heart is anymore. A subtle change, I guess.

I was a nerdy kid. I liked Bach and Glenn Gould. This is what I listened to. It is so long ago, I just stopped listening to music and listening to it now, I wish I hadn't stopped. So here's The Well-Tempered Clavier. by J.S. Bach

I remember listening to the "Surfin' USA" song before too.
Morningstar, that second one isn't terrible either.
Elizabeth, I listened to the first couple of minutes and it's a lovely piano tune.

Michael Buble has a lot of good music though. I like all of his songs. He has that nostalgic sounding voice.
I always liked this song....I would go in my room and snuggle with my plushy ebola and my plushy smallpox.
